I think that lowdown weasel Dwight did that to save his own skin. He needed a way to get Negan off his ass so he decided to throw the doctor to the wolves.

Yes, it looked like he cut out the end of the note that Sherry had left for him.

Thought that was dead obvious myself. Everytime that lowlife girl's blouse gets the chance to remotely redeem himself he goes and pulls off shit like that. He's honestly the first character on the show I actually truly hate and wish nothing but the worst upon.

I would say yes, Dwight planted that note on the doc.
To what end though?
To save his own skin is the first thought that comes to mind, but I do wonder if he planted the note in an effort to take the heat off of Sherry. To, at the very least, stall the hunt for her, give her time to put more distance between herself and the sanctuary.
Yes, he is a son of a bitch. Yes what he did was horrible. I just have this thought in the back of my mind that he did it for reasons other than himself. At this point in time I do not think that Dwight cares whether he lives or dies but he does care that Sherry's escape is successful.
Have to give Austin Amelio props, the guy is playing the part of cold and callous damn near perfect.

While I think that pinning it on the Doctor helped to sort of close the book on Sherry as far as Negan was concerned, I felt Dwight had something personal against him too. The Doctor said something to the effect of how "you can't have a heart now" to Dwight. So the guy represented what Dwight didn't want to be and what Sherry had run away from. He now has Negan's complete loyalty and is setting him up to eventually betray him down the line.

I like the idea of that being another layer to the character of Dwight.

Some people have a strong aversion to Dwight, and I can understand that after his treatment of Daryl etc. But I like his character more than the TV version of Negan. He also feels more real.

I am part of that minority, the very few people who want to see more of Dwight's story. Yes, what he did was horrible. But I like that the show has this type of character. A character who is conflicted, who is flawed, who hates himself yet does not stop himself from doing those things which he hates. I find his character and the possibilities for his character intriguing. And I think Austin Amelio is doing an outstanding job.

Doc would make small jabs at D. He got sick of it and opened both barrels on the Doc the only way he knew how. I also think D is playing a Eugene too. Keep or get in good or better graces with Negan to pull something.
I think D and Eugene are about to become super friends and be major players in the end of this chapter.

Eugene will be the brains of the operation and Dwight will the one to implement those plans. As I said in another thread, I am looking forward to where they take the story of TV Dwight

Hate him or Hate him.... ....Dwight is a very complicated character. I am on the bandwagon of him mostly doing it to save Sherry. But there is a lot more to it that others have touched on as well. He doesn't seem to care much about collateral damage. I have never come across a character that I hate SO MUCH, but want to see more and more of. He's confusing me. I like that.

I agree with a lot of the thoughts of him doing things to protect Sherry or stalling the Saviors. But I just think the method could have been much different this time. Maybe he did have issues with the doctor. But could they have been that deep? I mean look at everything Negan has done to him and taken away from him. With all the times they are alone that's who he needs to take out somehow. That way even if he himself is caught and killed by the Saviors, odds are they won't be so hard up to go after Sherry with Negan gone.

I think there are multiple threads weaving through Dwight, and he has many sides. I agree with all the reasons posted so far - that he did it 1) to save his own ass and 2) to possibly take the heat off of Sherry. But to expound on that quickly - he was extremely upset with that note she left him. She was writing him off entirely and wanted nothing else to do with him. Would he necessarily WANT to still protect her after that? I don't know. I mean he told Negan he knew where she was and most likely, I feel, he'd have brought her back had he found her. Why would he let Negan in on the fact that he knew where she was if he didn't intend on doing that? He knew once he got that note, he'd be coming back empty-handed and that wouldn't do.
Now, here's the OTHER reason why I think he might have chosen to sacrifice the doctor - to get Eugene in there instead. I may be way out in left field here, but I think it's a possibility.
I feel there's some higher cause for Dwight to do what he did. He could have just skipped town when Negan let him go on the motorcycle if he wanted to get away that badly, but he didn't, he came back empty-handed even though he knew he would probably die.
He wants revenge on Negan somehow, and I think he's going to use Eugene to get it. It might not seem like it but it makes sense to me anyway.
