I thought it was a really strong episode, maybe the best of the season in a lot of ways. The performances from all of the actors were amazing. I'd give it a 9.
The only thing that really bothered me was Ezekiel letting Morgan strangle Richard without trying to stop him. As much as he admires Morgan, Morgan has only been at the Kingdom for a few weeks, Richard clearly has been at the Kingdom for quite some time and has been a loyal defender of the Kingdom and Ezekiel. I can't see Rick letting a relative outsider kill a member of his inner circle even if they made a dumbass move--and, yes Daryl, I'm looking at you!
If Morgan killing Richard was what they felt they needed to do to move the story, I would have preferred it be a quick unstoppable act.

I agree with you completely on the Morgan killing Richard point. The only thing I can offer is maybe they were fearful of what the Saviors might do if they intervened? But even that is a stretch because they would not all, collectively, being thinking the same thing at the same moment. Yep, that was not a well thought out moment story wise. The quick and the dead would have been the better choice. But overall the episode was fantastic!

Comment I made about JDM and Negan (Hostilities and Calamities): So yeah, I agree the transposing of comic Negan to TV Negan comes off as cheesy at times, but I lay that criticism at the feet of the writers and SG. Because if the material were always written as interesting and mature as the above scene (above quote) JDM would no doubt be hitting it out of the park each and every time. My one criticism of JDM is how he delivers many of his lines. Often it's as if there is a period after every word. We. Are. The. Saviors. Overall I do agree though that it's Gimple and the writers. I don't know how they look at some of this stuff in editing and think it's good to go. Some of it is even cringe inducing. Maybe Gimple was just so enamored of comic Negan that he lost some perspective on how that's playing out on the screen. That's just another reason to kill JDM off the show. He was great in S6 finale and 7 premiere. But, as time goes by he's portrayal just keeps getting worse. I would've loved to see Henry Rollins in the role.
I thing they lost the key to the edit room this season
