What a wuss. I knew all along Eugene really was falling in along with the Saviors. I don't think it is a game. He is just gonna kiss butt to whoever keeps him alive. At the moment, Negan. And if I was Rick and Co. I would not take him back.

I just cannot wrap my head around Eugene actually being a traitor. But gah, they are certainly making it difficult for me to think otherwise.
All of the excuses play out in my head....he is afraid, he is doing what he needs to stay alive, he is formulating a plan, he is simply a coward, he is selfish. I go back and forth between all scenarios. I have to give the writers props on this story line, they are keeping me guessing

I don't think he's a traitor yet. Or that he will be. He would've started yelling out loud for people to come and capture Sasha and Rosita. Him saying, I don't ask to be saved is showing me a level of growth in Eugene. He's finally starting to get it. He's starting to understand what it takes to beat the bad people and he's playing the game. I'm convinced he has a long term endgame which leads to the downfall of the saviours. He's in a position of relative power and he's going to use it for good but for it to work, he has to pretend to be bad. Right? Ugh. I hope so lol

I was talking with my best friend last night about the Eugene thing, and seeing what happened last night, I think perhaps there is a mix of things going on.
I'm still not convinced Eugene is a traitor. First, I think he's scared to death. He watched someone close to him, who saved his life on numerous occasions, get his head bashed in. No matter how much time goes by, you don't get over that, nor do you forget who did it. After Abraham's death, I think Eugene felt useless most of the time, he didn't contribute like the others did, despite his small progressions here and there. He was just sort of listless and floating about.
Now here he is in the Sanctuary, we SAW the fear that Negan put in him, he was about to piss himself each time Negan even got near him. You know he relived Abraham (and Glenn's) deaths as soon as he saw Negan in Alexandria, but more so once he got into the Sanctuary. When he saw that he wasn't going to die right off the bat though, he slowly started to relax a bit. Then Negan gives him a purpose, something to do, something to contribute. But, I saw when that lightbulb went on when he was in line to get supplies, he knew what he had to do to make it, and right then he was cooking up his plan.
Now, when Sasha and Rosita showed up to get him out, I think a multitude of things hit him at once - first, shock of course that they were even there, then fear, I saw his body react. He had a look of absolute terror on his face, and it was for him but it was also for them, because he knew if they got discovered, it would be the end for all of them.
Underneath all of that, though, I think in some small way, he likes it there. I'll reiterate my point from above...he has a major purpose and is important (or so he thinks) and has people under him. Before it was always Abraham and/or Rosita who called the shots before they got in w/Rick and co., and then he got even more lost in the shuffle once that happened.
However, here's the thing...I do not think he likes it enough to completely turn his back on the group. I think there's something much bigger at work here. While they make it hard, as some of you have said, to believe that, I just have this gut instinct that he's still cooking something up. He is not ready yet, but he will be.

And if I was Rick and Co. I would not take him back. I for one understand your feeling this way. I'm not so sure myself to be honest. I hope he is scheming to sabotage the Saviors to give Rick's group an advantage somehow. I also hope he is trying to get close enough to kill Negan for what he did to Abe. Sort of his version of what Rosita and Sasha tried. But it is plausible that Eugene is trying to start all over with Negan. He could feel that his old back story died with Abe. So he can start anew with the Saviors who will protect him if he becomes one of them. All this we will have to wait, and I do mean wait, to find out.

A couple of other things about Eugene. Maybe he knows if he escapes, he will be in the same boat as Daryl with Negan out for his head. Also, it is possible Eugene is liking his new life as a Savior. He gets to boss people around using his intellect now instead of the other way around. He was treated poorly at times by Rosita and others in ASZ. It's possible he is starting to like the way things are going for him at Sanctuary.

Traitor? what?
I got the feeling that he's just scared. Not sucking up to Negan, but scared *of* him. Playing nice and doing what he wants means that the peace is kept. Escaping with Rosita and Sasha means that Negan has incentive to come after him and hurt him, or hurt others in retaliation.
He's not a traitor, he's just afraid and not a dumbass.

I mean he has people that fall for his bs there, and he is safe and has power so why would he leave? Plus if he left Negan'd kill him.
