Kirkman, Alpert, Hurd and *yawn* Mazzarra are suing AMC for basically breach of contract. This lawsuit also involves Fear the Walking Dead and The Talking Dead
So, what could this mean for the television series? Could this be the last season?
Probably not. I would venture to say there will be a season 9 and maybe a season 10. I would be surprised if the series went beyond 10, lawsuit or no lawsuit
The lawsuit that Frank Darabont filed against AMC a thousand years ago has yet to be settled. This new lawsuit could prove to do the same - drag on and on and on. Also AMC owns rights to TWD....to what end I have no clue and to be honest I am far too lazy to research in order to find out.
Even IF AMC would lose this lawsuit (and in time they may), they would certainly want to maintain their series that is bringing in the majority of their ad revenue. Lets face it, of all the shows on AMC none of the them even come close to the numbers that TWD pulls in.
My bigger worry is the actors - will they grow weary of working under such conditions, something akin to mom and dad always fighting. Andy and NR are just now enjoying their substantial pay raise they received about 6 months (?) ago. Will they stick it out to reap the benefits? And what of stars such as Danai, Lauren and Melissa? They are not being paid those numbers, what is their motivation to remain on board? Lauren and Melissa do not seem to have a great deal happening in their careers otherwise, but Danai is building quite the name for herself not only on tv and film but also on stage.
So many questions. And I think that a great many of them will not be answered anytime soon. Maybe they will not be answered until well after the last episode of the final season has long since aired.
Thoughts?
