Yes, he is in fact, my favorite character. I know this is a shock to you all but t'is true!
Reposting my OG post from TWDF in the Daryl character thread - why he's my favorite.
He's come a long way since S1, and still the strongest in the group, IMO. Always was, always will be.
I knew he was my favorite when the very first words out of his mouth were blunt, straight to the point and unapologetic. Too many TV characters lack that quality, and it's a breath of fresh air when they have it. Though his rougher edges have smoothed some, he's still the same Daryl.
Daryl's been through a hell of a lot, and most of that was all before the apocalypse even began. He had an extremely difficult upbringing, bad influences all around, no one to rely on, suffering constant abuse from those who were supposed to love him. He had to take care of himself, and he did. When you're someone who's been constantly beaten down by adversity from almost the beginning of your existence, you learn how to cope with anything that's thrown at you. All those things Daryl went through before the virus hit prepared him for it, I have no doubt about it. Compare him to the other male characters, almost NONE had it like him beforehand.
I see myself in Daryl in many ways, I identify with his plight and his strength. Another reason why he's my favorite.
Norman did an absolutely incredible job, the last few episodes especially, conveying everything Daryl was going through, what he was thinking, without hardly uttering a single word. Daryl is not a verbose man to begin with, but then he doesn't need to be.
He might not always do the smart thing, and he tends to get himself in over his head sometimes with his shoot first, think later attitude, but in the end, his only goal is to protect the group. Even if that means he will put himself in harm's way in the process. Rick called him "brother" for a reason.
And with that...
