My problem now is new authors stories will be great but the end always seems rushed or ehh. Not many authors can roll like the King.I do find some cool shorts online though. A decent one I found a while back. www.dionaea-house.com/

An edge has come off to the horror aspect of King's books, but I believe his overall storytelling ability is stronger now. I think a good bit of that is us getting older. My mother taught me to love books. She allowed me to progress at my own rate which was very fast. I remember her "bookcase" was a hall closet. In that closet were the Stephen King books. All I had to do was ask and I could read whatever but those books just put off a vibe to young me that I was not ready. Then one day I asked for one. Sure enough it was very spooky and heady to an elementary school kid. I devoured those books even though they kept me up at night. As I grew I learned to like them for little social commentaries or things he was trying to get across that kid me did not get and did not pay so much attention to the parts that would make me stop and look around when I got the heebie jeebies. I think we either become jaded on what scares us or we grow and loose that innocent fear. I personally would love to have that back. Good points. It takes a lot now for a horror film to scare me now too. You do grow immune to most of it. Very little shocks me even when filmmakers push the gratuitous violence to add to the horror.

My favorite novel by him is The Talisman (the sequel, Black House was great too), closely followed by It. The only book I have ever read that afterward I had to sleep with the light on was The Shining, and even now those hoses in hallways make me noivous...
My favorite short story is a tough one. The Raft? The Sun Dog? Mrs. Todd's Shortcut?
Obviously I love the Gunslinger series. Will not be watching the film though.

Is your lack of interest in the movie due to it may not live up to the gunslinger world in your head? I am going to watch it and keep remembering this is just one guys interpretation.

My lack of interest has to do with the fact that they will need to completely rewrite the story based on the actors they have hired. So much of the relationship between Roland, Eddie and Suzannah is based on Detta Walker and the fact that Roland is a white man (and Eddie too). So if Roland is black, how do you have that story? You have a story, but it isn't the one that was in the books.

I truly did not think of that dynamic as it has been a while since I read the Gunslinger books. That does make me think twice now. I may go just to see Oy and his interaction with Jake.

Maybe I'm mistaken and it won't be as bad as I think. Idris Elba is a great actor, it's just that he will have to have the story completely rewritten to work.

Ooooh The Stand! Ok I'll calm down. I enjoyed The Stand too. Wish someone would make an updated movie of it. The made for tv mini series/ movie thing is a bit dated now.

They had MOLLY RINGWALD PLAY FRANNIE.
Epic fail. Shockingly bad.
But then they had Gary Sinise play Stu, which was genius.
The whole thing was all over the place.
But it was still better than the IT miniseries.

It's just so "made for tv". Lol

Misery kind of creeped me out, then seeing Kathy Bates in the part made it even better.
On a side note - read "The Stranger Beside Me" by Ann Rule and "Intensity" by Dean Koontz if you want to branch out, BOTH of those scared the absolute poo out of me. I won't tell you what Ann wrote about in her book but trust me, you will be scared.
