Okay my wall of text about this episode follows:
First let me just put it out there in the universe - I really enjoyed this episode.
Cold Open For 5 minutes we had no dialogue yet so much was said. It reminded me a great deal of the cold open for JSS (Enid and the turtle) which I also thought was an excellent opening sequence. In both instances we were told a great deal in a short span of viewing time. Sasha was making sure that Maggie would okay, that she would be protected. Watching her care for Abe's grave, spending as much time with him as she could before the inevitable. Gregory realizing he is losing control of his leadership position to Maggie. And realizing that Jesus is helping things move in that direction. And when Maggie approaches Daryl and he still will not look at her...when she turns and walks away and has the moment of weeping, is she crying for Glenn or for Daryl? And then we come full circle and end with Rosita approaching Sasha to help her kill Negan. Add to the beautiful imagery we also have absolutely gorgeous music by Bear McCreary. His music coupled with the actors nuanced performances told a story, and told it well. Jesus and Maggie Jesus sharing his life before the end with Maggie was a great bonding moment for the two of them. Maggie tells Jesus to allow himself to form relationships with people, to trust those around him, to feel even though it may be fleeting. This was a great way to touch on Maggie's developing role as leader and why she will make such an effective leader. She still believes in the good. She still has hope. She still believes that making their lives worth living is worth the sacrifice. All echoes of Hershel and Glenn. source janel-moloney.tumblr.com Jesus confronts Sasha Then we have Jesus and Sasha having a heart to heart. Jesus knows what she is planning without really knowing what she is planning. He also knows that he will not be able to convince her that her plan is foolish. Then he tells her that "Maggie needs you too" and Sasha replies "not anymore". That crushed me. I instantly went back to season 4 when Maggie is trying to convince Sasha to help her find Glenn (after they have fought off the walkers at the abandoned warehouse). Maggie tells her that she cannot do it alone, that she needs Sasha's help. That was the episode that I wanted more of a friendship to develop between these two. And now, as shown in the cold open, Sasha is secure in knowing that Maggie has others who will support her, protect her, stand with her. I believe that was the only thing left that was holding Sasha back from following through with her need to avenge Abraham. source: michonnescarl.tumblr.com Daryl and Maggie Daryl ready to pounce on the savior and Maggie holding him back. Daryl ready to pounce on Negan when he was threatening Rosita and Maggie holding back when Negan was killing Glenn. The juxtaposition of having these two finally together to at last have that heart to heart about that will hopefully bring some semblance of peace to the both of them.source: glitterghosts.tumblr.com I admit that I have been tough on Daryl this season. I will give credit when due though...this was a beautiful and tear inducing moment. When Daryl looks at her and says "I'm sorry" in his broken voice, that same voice when he asked Carol why she left, I could feel the pain, the sadness, the guilt and remorse. It was heartwrenching. And Maggie telling him that he was one of the good ones. That Glenn thought the same and that Glenn would know because also was one fo the good ones. I really just do not know how many Glenn references I can take before pooling onto the floor in a wasteland of tears. Also, I LOVED the lighting in that scene. There was nothing to distract from the people and their dialogue. The lighting was soothing, calming and very few props, again leaving all the room for focus on the characters. Nicely done.Jesus and GregorySlowly we are seeing that kick ass side of Jesus. His loyalty to Maggie and by extension Rick and company is becoming more and more evident. Gregory trying to fan his peacock feathers in front of Jesus. All in an effort to intimidate Jesus. Jesus nailed it with this line: "you must be really worried if you are trying to split everyone up" Jesus sees through him, Jesus gets that Gregory is resorting to divide and conquer tactics. And then he threatens Jesus....WRONG!SOURCE: mymadnesswon.tumblr.. com...and finally for those that have made it this farSasha and RositaThey have that moment to finally clear the air. It was a very bittersweet moment I thought. Here they are, two strong women finally able to share with one another their pain over losing the same man. And it may well in fact prove to be the last time these two speak to one another. Sasha listening to Rosita tell her story. Allowing Rosita to work through her feelings about Abe, about Sasha. I saw this as Sasha doing this so that if things do not work out at least Rosita had the chance to somewhat make amends with Sasha. They were both so awesome in this scene, so vulnerable and still strong and focused.source: glitterghosts.tumblr.com
