Picking up on what some people have said in some of the threads, there seems to be a difference between comic book Negan and TV Negan. My personal take on comic negan was that he's cruel, crass and has zero charm, although in his head, he may think he is. And eveb a little goofy. TV Negan is so god damn charming and you get lost in that smile that you forget that he actually is as cruel as the comic character. I was seething when I was reading the comics but with the TV show, I get excited when I see him on screen and I'm all like, "awwww" until he's an asshole and I'm reminded I'm supposed to hate him. In the comics, there was never any good feelings. I wanted him to die a thousand deaths. So? Is this TV Negan good for the show or might it be detrimental?

You have hit on a subject that I seem to flip flop on, go back and forth on.
Sometimes the snarky side of tv negan is a bit much, seems forced. and then he goes and delivers the line "RICK! Look everybody, it's Rick" and it is friggin hilarious. While pondering this question I realize that I like snarky Negan just fine. It is when snarky Negan is mixed in with menacing Negan that I am not as big a fan. I want menacing Negan to be just that...menacing Negan. I loved the scene with Negan and Dwight in episode 11. When he is talking on one side of the door and Dwight is on the other side (in the cell) and Negan whispers "Dwighty boy was it you?" - that was chilling, that was creepy and JDM was perfect.
Overall I would say that TV Negan will not be detrimental to the show. JDM is doing a phenomenal job with the material he is being given. I think anyone else in the role would not be able to carry it off as well as JDM. My opinion, JDM is doing the character justice, making that character memorable. Yes there are points about the character that I am not completely on board with but I just need to get over it. When I start thinking that I should join the ranks of the whiners and complainers I need to remember that no one else would be giving such epic performances as Mr. Morgan. No one else would be giving us a Negan that we all hate ourselves for loving
And people need to chill about the leaning. If Rick can have his adorable head tilt then Negan gets to have his lean.

I only know some things about comics!Negan - but from the scans I have seen, he seems to just have that nasty grin along with everything, and it's like a drooling hyena. I also don't see much depth to him at all, he's just...evil.
What I like about TV!Negan the most is that JDM gives him more depth, and more sides. He'd be way too one-dimensonal otherwise. You can see glimpses of his humanity here and there, and that makes you wonder what it is that makes him tick in that way, like when he saw how he upset Carl when talking about his eye, for a second there you can see he seemed to have actually felt bad.
His charm is what just throws you all off, because you're supposed to hate him, but when he does that contented cheshire cat grin and that little laugh, I laugh with him and smile like a fool. His one-liners, though many are indeed from the comics, just add to the times when he's appealing.
But then when he DOES do something horrid, I feel rage, but I mostly feel scared. I've said this before, I've never felt actual fear from a TV villain but, he manages to do it. His unpredictability is front and center in the driving force for that.
So, yes, I think this IS who Negan is meant to be, it makes him stand out, he's in a villain class all by himself. He has power, presence, intelligence and an awareness like I've never seen.
Sorry, I have to add one more thing...see, when The Governor had his eyepatch, one would think that it would add a sort of ferocity to his appearance, but for me, it did the opposite...it was just a big joke.
But Negan and Lucille? Polar opposite. You see him even just casually handling that bat and even then you flinch, because you know how fast things can turn bad with it. I know in comparison, an eyepatch isn't much, but if it were Negan who had it, you can be damn sure it'd be scary.
