The season 7 finale episode "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life", earned a ratings share of 5.4 and earned 11.31 million viewers. Those are the lowest numbers for the show's season finale since season 2!
The Walking Dead does better than any current show on AMC's lineup, but the season finale's low numbers—and the dwindling numbers throughout the season—should concern AMC's executives.
The majority of the fanbase is frustrated with the group constantly being broken up, smart characters acting stupid to move the plot forward, gore and violence being used to boost ratings, Daryl and Carol's relationship being teased instead of developed, episodes for characters like Tara who few fans care about, the cliffhangers and flashbacks, and bottle episodes that only serve to fill up the season.
I hope AMC finally understands that the fans have legitimate grievances and restructure the show's story telling.
