It is too early for a countdown to Jesus thread (but do not worry jackson04 it WILL happen!) so for now here is a little thread to kick off the stifling summer hiatus. I cannot bear to look at the big picture so I view the hiatus as the end of the current season up until San Diego Comic Con. We get the trailer and that holds us over for a couple of weeks with videos of interviews, videos of panels, gifs, photos, THE TRAILER!!!! Then we have leg 2 of the hiatus from the point where we bottom out from the SDCC high until the hoopla and festivities that begin around 2 weeks prior to the season 8 premier.
So today I read the article that jackson04 posted in the casting news thread and it listed the 17 actors under regular contract. - Andrew Lincoln (Rick)
- Norman Reedus (Daryl)
- Lauren Cohan (Maggie)
- Chandler Riggs (Carl)
- Danai Gurira (Michonne)
- Melissa McBride (Carol)
- Lennie James (Morgan)
- Alanna Masterson (Tara)
- Christian Serratos (Rosita)
- Josh McDermitt (Eugene)
- Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel)
- Ross Marquand (Aaron)
- Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan)
- Tom Payne (Jesus)
- Austin Amelio (Dwight)
- Xander Berkeley (Gregory)
- Pollyanna McIntosh (Jadis)Of those 17 I have come up with my list of those I think will be gone by end of season 8 and those that I think are wildcards (meaning I think they have a slightly less chance of being gone by end of season 8.) Gone:Morgan Jadis Gregory Tara Wildcards:Carol Rosita Father Gabe The only two that I hope to be correct about are Gregory and Jadis LOL. It is just too hard saying good-bye. Thoughts. Am I way off base here? Do you agree with all? If not all, who do you agree with? Who would you add to the list? Who would you remove from the list?

Great thread danae. We do need these to discuss during the hiatus. I mostly agree with your predictions. But I would swap the list a couple of them are on. See, I all but expect Carol,(sorry @jackson04) Rosita and Gabriel to die. Morgan and Tara would be wild cards for me. But I would add Aaron and Eugene to the wild card list. I hope I'm wrong about both though. I don't see Eugene going the whole S8 as a Savior so I just wonder if he'll have to die for that to end.

For there to be any shock value in a death, it needs to be not in a season premiere and not in a finale. And definitely not an episode devoted to the character, in which it's showing us how much their life has changed and just how much they have to live for. You may as well throw a red shirt on em there and then and try to beam them up Scotty. We all saw Sacha dying from a mile away and when it did there was zero shock value, although the walker thing was ok. It all seemed to contrived for me, like the writers had a start position and an end position and didn't really give much thought for the journey in between. If someone dies series 8 episode 3 that would be a shock.
Anyway. I wished they'd killed Janis ( with a D ) there and then. I think the alliance should attack "Stig of the dump" ( look it up if you've never heard of it ) first. Wipe them out and retrieve the guns. I don't think they would be a match for Rick and the gang.

I agree with your suggestion about deaths on the premieres and finales. We always expect a death or 2. Especially those for S7. Now I know AOW should bring more significant deaths. So it would behove them to shock us with a main character death out of the blue in a few scattered episodes. Likely those we mentioned in this thread. But I think it will help if we had no idea the death was coming.

I have a feeling Enid is going to be an AOW casualty as a way to bring back dark Carl. Our favorite little future serial killer has been awfully quiet this season and that needs to change next season.

Yeah that's what I'm saying but unfortunately I can't see that happening, mainly because like a lot of the deaths before, the writers have to focus on that character and show them what they have to live for. Just to pull the heart strings. It's like hitting us over the head with a Ricky Schroeder and telling us to cry NOW !! Eg. Noah Bob Abraham Denise Sascha And others I can't think of.

Morgan is a very likely candidate. I would love to see Tara go - should've happened long time ago

I can see Morgan and Gregory biting the dust, along with Eric, Tobin, and a couple of redshirts (since ya know, none actually died in 7x16 except for like 3 extras - including the one who I'm pretending is Mikey lol).
Originally I did not care for Enid, but now I've grown to like her a bit, especially with her bond with Maggie and involvement in the battle for Alexandria. She's grown up and I want to see her in action more, I'm sure she'll finally get her first human kill (seems like she almost got Natania in 7x15, anyone notice that? she was so shaken but seemingly ready?)
I'd also like to see the demise of Jadis and the Scavengers this season. I was surprised to see that Jadis was promoted to a series regular, so I guess we'll see more of her since she's getting a bigger role?
As for Tara, I hope she does not go. I like her character a lot - she's so chill and funny, which is nice to have in this dark world. She's not over the top, but her subtle goofiness is nice. Like the fist bump attempt with Natania in 7x06. I will admit it was so different seeing her angry and egging Daryl on to kill Dwight. Hmm.
Never mention Carol as a potential casualty again. She just came back! Queen Carol!

She just came back! Queen Carol! I'm sure we can all expect S8 to be much more bloody when it comes to deaths of regulars. I just realized that may be the reason for those recent cast promotions. But I'm with you on Jadis. I was disappointed with that because that may mean they will last and be much more involved in the war than I'd like to see. I don't think they are very relevant myself. But their betrayal needs to be addressed by Rick's group quick like. I was hoping for that to be handled in the first 2 episodes of S8. But with her being a regular, that could take a while.
