www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/04/writers-strike-wga-letterIf the writers guild does in fact initiate a strike what might this mean for The Walking Dead season 8. Would this halt production of season 8? The possible date for the strike to begin (per this particular article) could be as early as May 1. How many scripts for season 8 will have been completed by that date? And if the strike lingers on throughout the summer will season 8 be only half as many episodes as the usual 16? This is the first I am hearing of this possible strike. Had anyone else knew of this possibility?

It would be a shame if the season gets shortened (or maybe even cancelled if the strike drags on) but I support the writers. Shorter season shows are going to become the norm so the writer's pay should be adjusted to make up for that. This seems like common sense. Writers don't get the respect they deserve. Without them there's no content and writers are just as important as the actors. Also TWD is gonna be delayed because I seriously doubt they will increase the writers salaries.

I think that in time the writers will get part of what they are asking for. as with all strikes a great deal of negotiating will be the key in bringing the strike to a close. In 2007 the strike lasted 100 days before an agreement was reached, thus stunting the seasons of many shows. The somewhat good news for TWD is that historically they return to the writers room in January rather than later in the summer as other fall tv shows call their writers in. Now how many episodes will they have written by May 1? We can assume that they have at least 4 episodes written since Gimple talked about the essence of those four episodes on Talking Dead Quick background and outcome of the 2007 writers strike en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%9308_Writers_Guild_of_America_strike

Poll from moviepilot.com POLL The rest of the article is pretty questionable since they state a few times that May is when the writers for The Walking Dead will begin putting pen to paper. Silly person writing the article - they have several episodes already written and ready for production I did read an article from www.variety.com that brought up this interesting bit of information in regard to the workings of negotiations: if the writers guild and the amptp are able to come up with what resembles the beginnings of an agreement there is the option to extend the deadline so that negotiations can continue moving forward without the threat of a strike looming. If that were to happen, work on the set and in the writers room would continue past the May 1 deadline and striking then may occur if after the extension an agreement has still not been met.

I sure hope there is no strike. As tough as a wait we already have, a longer one would just be a killer. But even with a longer wait I could take that over a shorter season. I wish it was more like 20 episodes per season myself. I couldn't imagine it going from 16 to 10 or so. Especially right when AOW is just kicking off.

Honestly, a writer's strike would probably do TWD a huge favour. They desperately need shorter seasons and more concise writing, and writers need more pay.
For the industry as a whole, it'd probably be a disaster, but for this show... Could be a blessing in disguise.

There will probably be a strike, but a show like TWD might not be too affected by it depending upon when they return. It might just push forward some of the filming. They do have a built in buffer of sorts with the halves of the season divided up.

For the industry as a whole, it'd probably be a disaster, but for this show... Could be a blessing in disguise. Agree with all of this. Most series run 10 or 12 episodes now straight through from premiere to finale. If TWD moved their 16 episodes of content into 12 then the overall product would be better. My only concern though would be that Gimple doesn't have the talent to do that. We even had extended episodes this season. They're not good at cutting out some of the fat, or weaving in different stories from episode to episode like Game of Thrones does.

Whew, that's good news!! I remember the big writer's strike from some years ago that affected so many shows, what a pain in the ass that was.
