Even though this episode felt like it was mostly filler in that not much happened to move the plot forward, I still found it thoroughly entertaining. I loved the abandoned carnival setting -- it had a Zombieland-esque vibe.

Some episodes are more compelling than others, but it is my favorite TV show at this time. All hail The Walking Dead!

The first Richonne centered action episode. Nuff said. Indeed. We got the rubbish episode out of the way now and the rest of the season to look forward to.

So obviously the most important element of the show was Tara. (What? Was there something else happening?) I just adore her, and not just b/c she's gay (though that certainly helps). She brings a much-needed touch of humor and heart without being sappy or unrealistic. (BTW, Rosita, when Tara offers to help stitch you up USING SKILLS THAT HER DEAD GIRLFRIEND TAUGHT HER, you graciously accept.) Loved her "conversation" with Judith (and the latter's wonderful expressions, as if she were truly focused on helping Tara figure this out) and hearing her try to work through her conflict. I know that for the others, it would be a no-brainer, but a promise means something to her. She also laid out the scenario pretty realistically. That said, I'm glad she's telling Rick. Yes, the one woman risked everything to help her (wouldn't mind those 2 becoming a couple) but the others were ready to kill her--frequently. OK, Richonne...like and138 said, the carnival setting was a great touch and anything that calls back to Zombieland is great by me. God, it was so good to see them enjoying each other and also really underscored just how great a team they are. LOVED their bantering about how many each would take ("You're leaving me with 8 walkers." "This requires quiet. And you can take 8."). The fight scenes were also excellent, especially the one at the carnival that had a wonderful rhythm and grace to it. It reminded me of the scene from "Go-Getters," where Sasha and Jesus were almost balletic in their fighting. And finally, I'm glad that Glenn and Abraham aren't gone and forgotten. Rick's pained statement that Glenn had saved him, but he couldn't save Glenn, was so well-done.

I have mixed feelings about this episode. For the most part they are positive feelings/thoughts/opinions with a small bit of negative thoughts (please take note that negative feelings are not part of the equation) thrown in for fair measure.
And while this episode did not stick with me as much as the Dwight scenes from the previous episode there were still moments that struck a chord with me.
The Richonne moments of course were beautiful and I do love seeing them together. But surprisingly (and thankfully) they took back seat to the more pressing matters of finding food and guns.
First I want to offer a blip about the two golfing Saviors, they seem to have been lost in the mix of all that went on in this episode. While up to this point in the episode Rick and Michonne's findings were lackluster at best. And then they happen upon the Mulligan brothers who are so busy hitting the balls and gossiping about the demise of fat joey that they are oblivious to Rick and Michonne watching them. A part of me wishes we would have seen what exactly R&M did to them but some things are okay to leave off camera. I do think that adding how the mulligan brothers were taken out would not have added any relevance to the story line. This small victory was needed, they needed a chance to put a check mark in the win column.
I understand Rick not wanting this moment in time to end too soon. I understand why he wanted to hold on to it for as long as he could. It was his respite. It was his escape. He wants so much to delay the inevitable. To delay what he knows will happen - that they will lose yet more people. That people are going to be hurt, people are going to die, people are going to be left alone to grieve the loss of a loved one, a friend. But right in that moment, with Michonne out on the road they are free from that happening just yet. They have one more day. Maybe even another day. A day or two to remember what happiness feels like, to remember what freedom feels like.
Poor Tara - I love her. I truly do. Although she has seen a great deal, has been in the thick of the fight at times she has still retained some of her innocence. Tara talking to Judith, well that was just hella adorable to start with. But beyond being cute it was a great moment for Tara. Here she is laying her heart out to Judith, trying to work it out in her own mind what to do, if she should tell Rick about Oceanside. Her struggle as she sees it (and I agree) is a very real one. She is torn because she knows that no matter if she tells the secret or not, in one way or the next there is going to be fallout. If she does not tell, then they miss out on obtaining the guns they need to take on Negan. If she does tell Rick then she runs the risk of not only putting her people in the cross hairs of the Oceanside ladies but also of the Oceanside group falling victim to Rick's dire need for guns and what he might be willing to do in order to fulfill that need. Judith was Tara's non judgmental sounding board. Why do we do that? Talk through our problems with someone (or our dog or our cat) that cannot respond to us? We do it because we already know what our answer has to be. We do it because we have to hear ourselves say it aloud, to make it feel real. To make it feel more concrete, "there, I have said what I need to do - now do it".

I KNOW I need to learn to self edit LMAO! What is that called in fanfiction? The person who reads your stuff before you post it? That is what I need - I need that kind of person LMAO. I will try to wrap this up on the off chance that anyone is actually reading my novella.
Gabe and Rosita. Rosita is making awful decisions, no one would argue that point. Everyone in this world has suffered great losses and each has felt their own amount of guilt. Yet I cannot help but think that Rosita is feeling more fear at this point than anything else. I do not mean fear in the most elementary form. I do not believe that she fears Negan, nor war, not even death. I actually think she would welcome death. Going back to last season for a moment. On the run to the pharmacy Denise tells Rosita that she asked her to join them because Rosita was alone and that it was probably the first time in her life that she was alone. That is what I think scares Rosita. She fears being alone. I think that plays a big part in her feelings of anger. It is her way to mask her fear. And I loved the exchange between Gabe and Rosita. The ease which he is now willing to accept her anger, to shoulder it. He wants to relieve her of that anger, he wants her to channel it into a useful means of handling the Saviors. Yeah Gabe, I am liking you more and more with time.
I am spent, bedtime draws near and I am sure I have bored the lot of you to tears with my ramblings.

THIS!! Something was niggling at me and so I scratched it but it kept niggling and so I used some ointment but the niggling continued and finally I realized it was mental, not dermatological but still couldn't name it. Danae called it. More than anyone else, I think, Rosita is least able to articulate how she's feeling even to herself, much less anyone else. What purpose does she serve now? And her grief over Abraham is all the more complicated b/c he had just dumped her (and I still have some feelings about his timing and word choice). Abraham taught her she was useful: she was giving him everything both physical and emotional, but it turns out he wanted the emotional elsewhere. So what does she have to give besides her fighting? And if she doesn't do that successfully, who is she? Who needs her? Ditto the props to Gabe! I could never have dreamed in S-5, when he was up on that rock barfing, that he would turn out to be one of my favorite characters. Now that he believes in God again--and believes God has forgiven him--he doesn't need to scramble and deflect. (I remember his treason with Deanna and thinking, "Dude, projection much?") He even has a sense of humor! And BTW, Danae--your musings do not bore. They illuminate and illustrate. Respectfully submitted, Walking Buckeye.
