Okay there is always some one that is the last stand out, the one person to hold on to "thats how we always done it". Well that was me and I have finally given in on most fronts this week. First is cell phones, I did not get one until I was 30 and was an avid flip phone person until my wife made me upgrade. I upgraded to a phone with screen but still had buttons (blackberry) and just this week purchased my first big boy phone an I phone which yes my son had to teach me to use.
Second is I gave up cable this week. Loved my service but no one watched TV cept for Sunday zombie worship which we can get season passes on Amazon fire stick. So no cable and.....my wife said while your at it remove the home phone service. Yes I still had one of those. Now that we all have cell phones its useless to have and only telemarketers call that line. I kept it just because I liked watching it ring and not answering it. So I have been dragged from my cave and introduced to modern society.
Any others still holding out? I am still with you just in spirit......

I'm still ashamed to admit I finally gave in after my last Nokia called it a day and went and got me an iphone as well. Used, mind you, I'd never buy such a thing new, but after years of preaching how I wont be lured into the hellmouth of "smart" devices, it still bothers me a bit to be one of the technozombies as well now. However, I will fight anyone trying to get me to install whatsapp until the day I'm dead and buried or at least full on demented. I will not buy new footie boots other than plain black and white's for an acceptable price. Fuck your modern rainbow boots. No cars for me that were made after 2006. Car technology is nothing but annoying and potential source of error. I don't use microwaves. There really is no reason for that. I only read real books. Also, hate fucking spotify and, if possible, only buy music if it's physically available. I'm sure there's loads more. I love this thread  |

I use to get ill at the older relative that refused to learn to do things like computers and such and now find myself more and more refusing to do it as well.I wonder if it is a means of understanding age and usefulness. Like our bodies understand we need this much knowledge of tech because we will be here for a while and as we get older we realize yeah that will be of no use to me because I will not be around for phase two of whatever it is.
The only plus to smart phones is texting. I HATE talking on the phone and prefer a quick text.

I can't remember when I got rid of my land line. Maybe 10 years ago? I don't even have traditional cable/Sat TV service anymore. We have Netflix, Hulu and Vudu and I hear that some of these streaming services are going to begin offering a la cart type services where you just pay for certain networks instead of having to pay $50 a month for a bunch of channels you never watch.

I never hold out with technology - I love it when anything new comes out! If i could afford it i would always have the latest and greatest technology lol. I've always been that way i guess. It just fascinates me. My motto is, "if i can't do it on the internet, i can't do it". I guess the only thing i held out on for a while was a flat screen TV because they were so expensive when they first started coming out and i was a poor college student. So i had one of those big ol' TV's. I used to think i didn't need one until i would go to friend's houses who had them and i'm like...ooh this is nice.

I still have my land line, it's only 10 bucks more and if you use your phone to make business calls from the house, you can hold it with your shoulder while you eat and surf the forum. Cell phone is too small for that and I hate talking with the speaker on. And the thing about getting rid of cable, is I've had an email address I've used for 15 years and hate to change it and the 24/7 local news channel that comes with Brighthouse (now Spectrum) only is available thru them. But one day, I feel a change is coming bc I think Spectrum is gonna suck.
