NEW CAST: The Keeper - Togo Igawa
Episode 207: Lost
The walkers in the dilapidated house shuffled around aimlessly, due to a lack of any humans having visited the house in ages. Suddenly, the door swung open, with Jun storming in, shooting one walker in the head, while Soo Yung pushed another into the wall, jamming a knife in its eye afterwards. “Clear!” Jun hissed. Ronin and Takeshi entered through the kitchen, now black with mildew and rot. “Takeshi, there’s one in the cupboard. We should see if there is any food before settling in” Ronin pointed out. Takeshi flung open the door to reveal a walker, whose clothes had been torn off, with a gunshot to the neck showing how the person it used to be died. It used to be a child no older than 6, but the black teeth snapped and snarled as if the walker was that of an adult. Takeshi grimaced and stabbed the former child in the head. Shoving the body aside, he clicked on a flashlight and checked the pantry. “Hell yes” he said with a smile. Ronin walked up and saw what he was celebrating about. A pantry filled with canned and bagged goods, untouched by anyone. “Good job Murano!” Ronin complimented Takeshi. “Hey Jun, we have food down here!” Ronin excitedly chattered into the CB radio holstered on his hip. “Collect as much as we can carry and we will meet you in the truck. Over” Jun ordered. Jun and Soo Yung slowly ascended the flight of stairs, reaching the top floor to find a trail of dried blood and gore leading into one of the rooms with its door closed. They quickly checked the other rooms to find them empty. Soo Yung curled her nose as they approached the closed door. “What is that smell?” she asked disgustedly. Jun grimaced “Smells like decomp” he replied. The shook the door handle to discover it was locked. He placed two solid kicks along the lock, with the third and final kick sending the door swinging. They looked inside to find a gore covered skeleton chained to the wall, its skin stripped off and the ceiling and walls painted in blood. Soo Yung gasped in utter horror, and even Jun was taken aback. There were words painted on the walls, such as “He will make us whole”, “Hunger is momentary”, “Pain is only an idea” and “Even the young must see the light” The skeleton slowly moved and opened its mouth. “A skinned walker?” asked Jun. The walker let out a deep gurgling noise and slowly snapped its mouth. Jun stabbed it in the eye socket, and took a step back. Soo Yung pointed to a pile of body parts in the corner. “Its kids…the bodies are that of kids” she whispered, trying not to vomit. Jun nodded and replied, “We’re leaving. Now” The two of them went down the stairs, and found Takeshi, Jae Eun and Ronin loading up as much food as possible into the back of the truck. Haruna and Sung-min stood guard, with Shinji popping out from behind a curtain. “Found a pistol, Jun!” he said, showing off the chrome handgun. Jun smiled and took the pistol, looking it over. “Nice work man!” he beamed. He then turned serious and shouted, “We are leaving now! Things are not safe here!” Ronin poked his head up, “Why? Only like one walker in the whole area now” he inquired. “Another paint job upstairs” Jun replied. Ronin grunted in dismay and waved at Takeshi. “Come on old man!” he forcefully ordered Takeshi. Takeshi shot him a grouchy look, muttering “I should kick your ass you little shit” before tossing the final armful of food into the truck. All that remained was a package of crackers and a can of Jammin’ Grape soda that sat on the counter. The group climbed into the truck, and took off, leaving the house to remain empty forever. ==================================== “It’s been a month since we left Shimura Village Jun. We still haven’t found the Shinda, despite us searching up and down the coast. We might need to give up and hunker down somewhere else” Takeshi suggested to the younger man. Haruna piped up, “If its anywhere, we will find it” Takeshi sighed. “And if it’s in Hawaii now? What about Jeju Island? Who the hell knows where it could be! We could be chasing a ghost” he strongly warned her. Lady Kasune, whose once smooth shiny hair was now tied in a ponytail, pointed to the shoreline. “A coastguard station! We could hail the Shinda and ask to be picked up!” she said with a hopeful smile. Jun looked towards the shoreline to find a swarm of walkers shambling along the beach. “It’s too risky” he replied to Kasune. Ronin put on a pair of fingerless gloves he found in one house, and overlooked the beach. “Only way we could get to it is if we had a distraction loud enough to attract them all. Something like an explosion…” his eyes wandered over to a truck labeled “ShiYan Fuel” “That truck could cause a large enough boom to get them all off the beach, if we blow it” Ronin predicted, pointing to the truck. “Let’s blow it and see what happens” he said, nudging Jun. Jun nodded in agreement and went to the back of the truck. Along their travels they had picked up a military rocket launcher, complete with 3 rockets. Ronin climbed atop the truck, aimed at the fuel carrier, and fired. The rocker slammed into the underbelly of the other truck, causing the fuel to erupt in a plume of fire, as a huge fireball light the evening sky. A thunderous BOOM shook the ground under them. The walkers noticed the explosion and slowly herded towards the fireball, leaving only 3 walkers on the beach. “Sung-min, you and I will go and hail the Shinda” Jun explained to the Korean “after we hail them, we make our case and see if we can come aboard” Sung-min raised his hand. “And if it’s out of range, or the radio is busted?” he asked. Jun grinned with confidence. “At least we had a nice light show” The two of them ran to the guard house and climbed inside. A walker jumped out from the hut, only to land in the sand below with a crack. Sung-min smiled and climbed in, checking to see if any more were present. Jun followed, and found the radio. A small hand crank was beside the main controls, with the radio frequency monitor on the dash. Jun cranked the handle enough to get the red power diode to flicker to life. He tuned into a frequency that wasn’t pure static, and hailed; “This is Jun Masumoto. I am the leader of my group of survivors. Is this the Shinda I am hailing?” There was silence on the other end, followed by “This is the Shinda reporting. What are your intentions Masumoto? Are you hostile?” the woman on the other side asked in a no nonsense way. “No ma’am, we are merely looking for a safe place to stay. That is all” Again there was silence. “Please hold” the woman on the other end instructed. There was a click, and a soft humming filled the speaker. Sung-min frowned. “Are we seriously on hold right now?” he asked in an insulted tone. The radio clicked back on, with a gruff voice demanding, “This is First Mate Nakajima. State your group size” Jun thought for a moment. “About a dozen. We are hard working people, and will earn our keep I swear” he pleaded. “Heard that before” Nakajima scowled on the other end “how are we to know you aren’t raiders?” Jun swallowed. “Sir! I assure you we are not raiders or slackers. We just need to get to a safe place, and the people I rescued at the facility where some of your crew was held can vouch for me” There was a pause. “…You are the one who freed the people from Mesuji’s hellhole? That was you?!” Nakajima asked with a shocked tone. Jun stiffened. “Yes it was me and my group. We were trying to escape, and I released the cell doors. Look, sir, we aren’t going to take advantage of your kindness. Please at least consider our proposal” he pleaded. Nakajima responded with “We have your radio signal pinged. It will take us 2 days to reach the shore based on our current location. In the meantime, survive until we can pick you all up. Meet you then, Masumoto” The radio fell silent, and Jun placed the microphone on the cradle. “We have our ride” Jun said to Sung-min, who grinned from ear to ear. ========================== Jun and Sung-min arrived back to the truck, grinning. “We contacted the Shinda!” Jun said happily. Haruna burst into a wide smile, something he hadn’t seen in forever. Takeshi rubbed his head with a sheepish look on his face. “Well, I guess we are now set!” he replied. Kasuna and Akiko poked their heads through the tarp and grinned. “We have a place to stay?!” Akiko asked. Jae Eun and Soo Jung were collecting clean water, and walked to the truck, with surprised looks on their faces. Jima and Shinji were guarding the truck and they ran over to the group, excitedly panting. Jun waved his hand in a warning manner, “Look, I got in contact, but we have to wait 3 days until they get here. Until then, we have to hole up somewhere and lay low. We can’t afford to screw up and get killed before they arrive. Ronin, is there anywhere we can stay?” Ronin shook his head. “I don’t think there is a safe place for us at the moment…” he trailed off, prompting Jae Eun to ask, “What? You have something?” Ronin rubbed his bearded chin. “There is the Traditional House near here. It is surrounded by a stone wall, and might be enough to keep us safe for a few days at least. And it’s only a mile from here. What do you think?” he asked Jun. Jun nodded. “We’re going to see if it’s safe” he replied, loading his revolver. They arrived at the Traditional House, only to find it virtually untouched. In fact it was still in perfect shape. They parked, with Ronin, Shinji, Sung-min and Jun pulling out their rifles and forming a cohesive unit as they searched the perimeter. Ronin noticed the door to the house creak, prompting the four of them to line up, aiming their rifles. A cat shot out of the door, with the group relaxing at the sight. Inside the house, which was decorated in the style of a traditional Japanese Shogun dwelling, were a few tatami mats, a low table, a small end table filled with brochures and tourist info and a single computer. They checked the house to find it totally empty, with not a single corpse to be found. “This place is too clean” commented Jima, wiping off imaginary from a nearby chair. Jun noticed and poked inside a closet nearby. Inside were tons of cleaning supplies, all of which were neatly organized. Jima gawked at the supplies. “Worlds ending and this guy is still cleaning his house” he said. He caught a glimpse of Jun, and blushed, hoping the other man had noticed. Jun hadn’t noticed, but instead sat down and sighed. “My feet are killing me” he groaned as he took his shoes off. Haruna and Kasune were unloading some food from the truck, with Ronin standing guard. “You knew him before this?” Haruna asked Kasune, referring to Ronin. “Yeah, for a while I did. I was his father’s…friend” Kasune replied “So I knew of him. Never got to meet him until a year before this happened” Haruna nodded and smiled coyly. “You and him aren’t an item?” she asked. Kasune shook her head. “No. I never had in interest in him. Why do you ask?” Haruna looked to the ground and kicked a pebble. “My ex husband Toro and I divorced 4 years ago. He was never home, while I raised Jun and Hideki. Jun was from a previous marriage, but he always considered me his mother. So friction was always a component in our relationship. I figured, with the dead coming back to life and society dying, we could patch things up. Now…that’s not a possibility. Ronin is a lot like him, actually. Noble, loyal, smart…strong” she said, catching herself looking at him. Kasune clamped a hand over her mouth. “You think your son would mind if you and Ronin were to know each other without clothes?” she asked point blankly. Haruna gasped. “That’s not what I meant! I meant…well…” she trailed off, causing Kasune to squint. “Sure thing” she said, giving a cynical thumb up. The group that night barred the entrance with the truck and a sheet of metal, and began to settle in for the night. Shinji wandered around the house looking at everything. The Traditional House was a place he ALWAYS wanted to go to, but the tickets cost far too much, making the place a top spot for rich couples and try hard weeaboos. He found a closet, and opened the door. Inside he found a full suit of shiny black Samurai armor, complete with a sword stand holding three blades: a Katana, a Tonto and a Wakizashi, a medium sized sword used as a back-up blade. Shinji giggled in excitement as he ran into the next room with Sung-min, Jima, Jun and Takeshi. “There is a suit of Samurai armor in there!” he said with pure childlike glee. Jun grinned. “That could be very useful indeed!” Sung-min pulled out a cigarette and lit it. “Oh come on man, not in here!” Jima groaned. Sung-min took a long drag from the cigarette and puffed it in the air. “No one here to bitch about it. So why not?” he reasoned, passing a cigarette to the group. All the other men turned it down, prompting Sung-min to stuff it back in his pocket, replying “More for me then. Thank god I love Menthol” ============================ That night, Ronin slept alone in a separate room, his gun and knife within arms reach. His door opened, prompting him to grab his gun. He aimed it, only to find Haruna being the one who opened the door. She softly asked, “Is it a bad time?” Ronin shook his head and sat up. “No, no please come in” Haruna walked in and closed the door behind her. She collected herself, and forced a smile. “Look, Ronin. I think you have done more for us than what was expected of you. For that, I can’t thank you enough” Ronin waved a hand playfully. “Don’t worry about it. It’s what Toro would have wanted” Haruna pursed her lips, and nodded lightly. “Look, I am not the one to do this normally, but I think it’s warranted” she said. She then undid her night robe’s sash, and dropped the robe, revealing her unclothed body before Ronin. Ronin blinked. “Ms. Masomoto, what the hell are you doing?” he asked. Haruna smiled and replied, “What does it look like I am doing?” Ronin stood and grabbed the robe, wrapping it over her to cover her body. “Look, it’s not like you aren’t attractive. You are, but with your son being our leader, and with you being an older woman, it would make things weird. You understand?” he asked with a kindly tone. Haruna nodded, a tear falling down her cheek. “What’s wrong?” Ronin asked. “I am 43 years old. I know I am getting older, but with the world we knew gone, I thought maybe…maybe I could try to be young again. And with Hideki gone…what do I have to lose?” she said, trying to not burst into sobbing. Ronin ran a hand on her cheek, and kissed her. She accepted the kiss and leaned in, pressing against him. Ronin stopped and smiled. “Not a word to Jun” he playfully warned. Haruna grinned like a teenager and replied, “Not a word” as she dropped her robe again, crawling on top of Ronin, disrobing him while kissing him. Jae Eun had a quick question to ask Ronin about the perimeter, and had made her way to his room. She opened the door a crack and saw Haruna bouncing on top of him, panting and gasping. She closed the door, and smiled to herself. ========================== The next morning the group awoke and gathered at the table, with the notable exceptions of Haruna and Ronin. “Wake up Ronin please” Jun asked Shinji. Shinji stood and walked over to Ronin’s room. Out of the room came Haruna, her hair a mess and grinning. Ronin walked out, his fit toned, tattoo covered torso without a shirt. Shinji looked at Haruna and back at Ronin. “So you like them old, heh?” Shinji teased. Ronin threw on a shirt and growled “I will kill you, you know?” at Shinji, who ran off to the main group. Jun smiled at the group, as he opened a bag of chips. They all took a can of food with jugs of water beside them, and began to eat. “We have to be on our best behavior once we get to the Shinda. We can’t risk being thrown off for something minor. I suggest, we keep our past kills a secret. I don’t want to have them think we are killers” Takeshi suggested to the group. Jun nodded. “I agree. If we are asked, we don’t lie. But don’t flaunt it either. Just…don’t stick out” Jae Eun looked at a cracker on her plate with disinterest. “But we are killers. That’s what we are now. Things won’t go back to normal, Jun. They never can” Jun shifted in his chair. “I know that. But we can’t act like raiders. That’s not who we are” Jae Eun shot him an angry look. “I saw the way you killed the Korshas! You aren’t the college student anymore. You are our leader who has killed over 20 people thus far! We might be the farthest thing from raiders, but we are not without blood on our hands either” she stated angrily. “You can keep pretending we are untrained, but they will see it from a mile away” Jun shot up. “WE WILL ACT NORMAL! GOD, I AM NOT TRYING TO HIDE WHO I AM HERE, JAE EUN!” he yelled. Jae Eun stood up and jabbed a finger in his chest. “You may be my love, but I can call out your bullshit too. What will happen when we get aboard? We take it over? Kill the captain? WHAT WILL YOU DO?!” she demanded. Jun’s face flushed a deep red and he roared “I DON’T GODDAMN KNOW!” He sat down and shot down a gulp of water. Jae Eun stood, disgusted. “You were, weren’t you? Going to abuse their trust and take their ship…what the hell is wrong with you Jun?” she asked heartbroken. She ran off crying, with Akiko following her. Shinji slowly took a bite from his Pita pocket he had scavenged. “Nice job jackass” he commented. Jun ignored him and ran off to apologize. Takeshi smacked Shinji on the head with a disappointed look. “Stupid kid” he grunted. Jun ran up to Jae Eun, whose face was buried in Akiko’s shoulder crying. Akiko shot him an angry look and shook her head. “Look, Jae, I’m sorry…I wasn’t planning on taking it over, it was just a thought that crossed my mind” Jae Eun stopped crying and looked at Jun. “I just hope you don’t do something stupid” she firmly told him. They were interrupted by an unfamiliar voice; “Ahh visitors! And I wasn’t here to set out the tea!” They turned to see an old man with a short beard, wearing a blue Kimono standing in front of them, his arms full of fresh vegetables. Jun pulled out his pistol. “Who are you?” he asked suspiciously. The man laughed heartily and replied, “Why son, I am the keeper of the Traditional House!” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the next episode of The Walking Dead Japan: The group’s new host makes Ronin and Akiko curious, as the time to board the Shinda draws near.

NEW CAST: The Keeper - Togo Igawa Summary: The group’s new host makes Ronin and Akiko curious, as the time to board the Shinda draws near. Episode 208 – Bushido “BACK UP!” Jun shouted, his pistol flying up and aiming at the man’s face. The Keeper smiled warmly and slowly placed the basket of potatoes and other vegetables in the ground. “There is no need to be violent, my son. I mean harm to the dead ones only. Please…” he said, calmly lowering Jun’s pistol with his hand. Jae Eun stared with disbelief, while Akiko slowly bowed in a polite manner. “Ah! This child knows the old ways!” The Keeper beamed, his friendly face smiling even wider. He then bowed back to her with a polite chuckle. Jun holstered his gun. “Is this your house?” he asked. The Keeper nodded. “I have been watching over this fine estate for 40 years. It’s my pride and joy. You’ve spent the night in here, am I correct?” he asked. Jun and Akiko nodded. Jae Eun bowed and replied “We didn’t know it was your house mister” The Keeper laughed heartily. “My child, don’t you worry! I love guests! Now…let’s partake of some fresh vegetables from the nearby gardens, shall we?” he chortled. The four of them went inside the Traditional House, where Ronin, Sung-min and Takeshi glared at The Keeper with distrust. “Who is this guy?” asked Sung-min. The Keeper smiled brightly and replied, “I am the owner of this house, my friend. Please, continue resting!” Sung-min sat down, quietly rubbing his hand over his pistol. The Keeper went into the kitchen and plopped the basket of vegetables on the counter. He began to hum while he scrubbed up a few potatoes. Jun followed him and leaned on the counter, facing The Keeper. “Do you have any idea who we are and what is happening?” he asked. The Keeper grinned cheerfully, “No, and yes, I do. The dead are coming alive and consuming all. We must fight them to survive. As for you and your group…no clue who you are” He chortled as he placed a freshly scrubbed potato on a cloth. Jun frowned. “A dozen or so people enter your house and live in it, and you’re okay with that?!” he asked incredulously. The Keeper smiled and stopped scrubbing. “If you had been raiders, you would have killed me…and your women would have been abused. From what I have seen, they are very well taken care of, and you didn’t shoot me. So…you are all fine by me!” Jun nodded. “We won’t be staying long. We are going to board the Shinda in 2 days” The Keeper nodded and replied, “I know you are. This is where many a weary traveler has lain to rest whilst waiting for the Shinda to rescue them from the dead. Vice Admiral Yamamoto is tough, no nonsense and ruthless, but fair once you know his soft spots” Jun sighed and picked up a potato. “We can protect you until we leave. Maybe you can come with us?” he offered. The Keeper nodded. “I will board with you this time. Mostly because it’s become very clear there won’t be any more survivors to pick up. Last person to board from here was found by me a week ago. After that…well, it’s been very lonely” he replied somberly. Jima entered the kitchen, shocked by the sight of the old man. “Umm who are you?” he asked. The Keeper smiled. “Your host!” he cheerfully answered. Jima looked at him, then at Jun, blushing. “He’s alright Jima” Jun assured him. The Keeper plopped a basket of more vegetables on a countertop to be washed and beamed happily. “Fresh vegetables are always better than canned!” he cheerfully retorted, while Jun looked back at Jima, who muttered, “I hope” =================================== Ronin went back into his room, and sat on the floor, taking off his shirt. A hole was plainly visible on his front left side, prompting him to toss it in a corner. Haruna walked in and sat down beside him. “Shirt needing a repair?” she asked with a coy smile. Ronin nodded and watched as Haruna picked up the shirt, and began to look it over. “I think there might be some thread and a needle around here” she muttered. Ronin laid down on the cot and closed his eyes. “So what happened last night was a one night thing?” he asked, eyeing the older woman. Haruna kept observing the shirt’s tear, replying, “If you want it to be, it can. Or if you want to have occasional nights like that, we can try that too” Ronin rubbed his head. “And if Jun finds out?” he asked. Haruna sighed. “I am a grown woman. He would have to deal with me being with you” she said confidently. She then dropped the shirt and knelt down to kiss Ronin, who received her with equal compassion. ================================= The group gathered around the table, while The Keeper went outside and closed the front gate. He came back and sat at the head of the table. A huge tray of steamed vegetables, fried fish, fresh fruits and plenty of bread were on spread across the table, with Sake being poured into glasses. “A toast!” The Keeper cheered, “To new friends, and a great life ahead of us!” They then began to feast. After a while, Takeshi paused from nibbling on an ear of corn to ask, “Sir, how did you know to trust us?” The Keeper stuffed a bite of fish in his mouth. “You weren’t raiders…or the Reborn” Ronin’s head perked up. “Who the hell are the Reborn?” he demanded. The Keeper calmly pulled out a small, red book with an ornately carved skull on the front, the kanjis for “Death”, “Rebirth”, “Immolation”, and “Suffering” wrapped around the top of the skull. “It’s a cult here that believes the…walkers, as you call them, are the sign that rebirth is now upon them, and that those few who had not died and come back, are to herald the word of Izanami, the goddess of death” Jun leaned in, curious to know more, while Jae Eun clung to him tightly. “The Reborn hunt and kill anyone who hasn’t sworn their loyalty to Izanami, and those who do, must give their blood to their leader, the High Elder. They are fanatical, and will kill anyone they see…” The Keeper said, trailing off to look outside with mild fear. Ronin and Shinji stood, also looking outside. “What is it?” they asked. The Keeper shook his head. “They came to me, asking for entrance aboard the Shinda, to…convert those who had not seen Izanami’s divine presence. I refused. They said they would be back tonight” he explained, never taking his eyes off the window. Ronin pulled out his handgun, as did Sung-min, Shinji, Lady Kasune, Jun and Takeshi. “We can kill them” Jun stated. The Keeper shook his head again. “There are too many. As far as I know, there are over a hundred followers, most of them joining out of fear. They don’t demand anything, save for blood and flesh” Jun checked the clip in his AK74. “Fine. We hold them off until the Shinda arrives. Kill any of them who arrive here, and fortify this place” he said with cold confidence. Jun pointed at Shinji and Ronin, “You two will go upstairs and keep watch”, then at Jima and Akiko, “You two will patrol the house, to make sure if any slip through the defense they are taken down”, then pointing to Takeshi and Kasune, “You two will guard the south side of the house”, finally pointing to Jae Eun and Soo Yung. “And you two will keep mom and Mr. Keeper here safe if anything happens. In the meantime, Sung-min and I will go do a little scouting” he ordered looking at the Korean, who nodded and picked up a police issue Colt Carbine he scavenged earlier. They then took off out of the house and hopped into a car that had been parked nearby the Traditional House. ============================== Sung-min drove while Jun sat in the passenger side seat, his rifle in his lap. “Look, I meant to say this earlier…but back at Shimura Village, I went out to look for your brother…I failed” Sung-min mournfully told Jun. Jun bit his bottom lip, stifling him from crying. “I don’t blame you man” Jun retorted “I blame myself. I should have stayed behind, and not had that bitch Kasune tell Ronin what to do. I feel like if I had been there, keeping an eye out, I would have been able to do something to keep Hideki safe…But I wasn’t” he shifted uncomfortably. “I am responsible for so much death. Dad, Yui, Mrs. Murano, Hideki, everyone at Shimura Village. All are dead because of ME” Sung-min pulled out a cigarette and slid it between his lips. “Listen. You aren’t going to live in this world with clean hands. That’s never going to be an option. But, to put more blame on your shoulders isn’t going to help in any way. You are our leader, Jun. You are allowed to have feelings, but feeling terrible for shit that’s out of your control is not going to make you a better leader. You have to be-” he stopped and slowly put on the brakes. The road in front of them was blocked with dozens of walkers, who now suddenly noticed the car and began to shamble towards them, snarling and snapping. “SHIT! HOLD ON!” yelled Sung-min, as he reversed the car, and spun around, peeling out from the blocked road’s path and taking off back from where they came. “Christ if we go back to the house we will have them on top of us!” Sung-min shot out towards Jun, who quickly whipped out a map and scanned it hurriedly for another route. “We can take this route to the west and divert the walkers away from the house!!” Jun shouted. Sung-min turned west and floored the gas, shooting forward. ======================================= Shinji again found himself drawn to the Samurai armor, staring at the suit and swords before. The Keeper entered the shrine room and commented, “Interested in your history, are you?” Shinji jumped. “I-I-I didn’t mean to snoop around sir! I am just…just curious about this suit” he stammered. The Keeper smiled and patted Shinji’s back. “No need to be nervous. Your history is important. But…shouldn’t you be guarding the south side of the house?” he asked. Shinji shrugged. “I am taking a break” The Keeper looked deep into Shinji’s eyes. “You are suffering, aren’t you?” he asked Shinji. Shinji nodded. “My girlfriend Yui died a month ago…and I still haven’t gotten over it. I don’t think I can” he confessed. The Keeper handed Shinji a red leather bound book. He dusted off the cover to reveal the name: The Book of Five Rings. Shinji frowned. “The book on the Samurai?” he asked skeptically. The Keeper nodded. “My forefathers were Samurai. I follow their ideology and traditions. My wife died in child-birth and this book…it made me have a purpose. Maybe it can do the same for you too” He went over to the suit of armor and wiped the thin layer of dust off one of the pauldrons. “I would love to see this suit in action for once in my life” confessed The Keeper, as he left the room, with Shinji standing in place, opening. ============================== Takeshi heard the sound of footsteps approaching the Traditional House first, and grunted to Kasune. The two of them went to the window to find three men, armed with crude blades and axes standing in the front entrance foyer. Takeshi calmly walked up to the leader, a thin man with crooked yellow teeth and a pile of greasy hair atop his head. “What do you want?” Takeshi demanded, planting his feet defiantly. The leader opened his arms out, his shirt covered in human faces that were skinned from previous victims. “This building and its inhabitants are to give themselves to the Reborn, and bathe in the rebirth of Izanami’s light!” he shouted “And those who stand in her way are to have their blood bathe the earth below them!” Kasune raised an eyebrow at Takeshi. “You three are going to do that?” she asked with mild amusement. The leader closed his arms and smiled. “Not I, nor my brethren behind me. It shall be the body of our congregation. And the priestess shall lead us to the light” Takeshi raised an eyebrow. “The Priestess?” he asked. The leader grinned. “You shall know her intentions soon enough…infidel!” he shouted, unsheathing a knife and slash at Takeshi. Takeshi dodged the slash and in one smooth motion unsheathed his own knife, raising it and stabbing it in the leader’s eye socket. Kasune promptly shot one of the followers in the head with her own gun, but was thrown to the ground by the last surviving member who grinned. “And yea, the blood shall flow!” he screamed. Before he could stab her, a slashing noise sang through the air, and the follower’s arm fell to the ground. He looked at his now bloody stump, and began to scream in pain, before being stabbed in the back of the head by Takeshi. Kasune stood and noticed Shinji with one of the Katanas from the shrine room. Shinji looked at the bloody arm on the ground and recoiled. Takeshi nodded thankfully and overlooked the scene with mild shock. The Keeper ran outside with Ronin in tow, and saw the carnage before him. He then looked at Shinji. “Looks like you have picked a few pointers up already” The Keeper commented with a slight smile. ========================= Jun and Sung-min turned the corner to find the road blocked with dozens of stalled cars. “Dammit” Jun grunted. Sung-min checked behind the car, noticing a few walkers that had shambled out from the woods. “We might have to ditch the car” Sung-min told Jun, who stared at the map. “We are 2 miles from the Traditional House from here. We can walk” he stated, stuffing the map in his coat pocket. Sung-min agreeing to the idea, jumped out of the car, with Jun in tow, while the walkers surrounded the car. They ran up a nearby hillock, and saw the house in the distance. “Just a straight line” Jun panted as they ran. Sung-min stopped, and raised a hand. Jun stopped as well, and demanded, “WHY ARE WE STOPPING?!” Sung-min pointed to a freshly dug pit filled with mud. Inside were around 8-10 corpses, all rotting and stinking. A Kanji for rebirth was painted in blood on a nearby board. Jun’s face grew dark. “The Reborn” he noted. Sung-min looked around for any unusual activity, before noticing the walkers following them. “We should go” Jun suggested hurriedly. ===================================== Shinji cleaned the Katana blade and placed it back on the display with respectful care. The Keeper entered the room and ran a hand over the handle of the sword. “Nothing makes me happier than seeing a young one using a piece of history” he sighed happily. Shinji frowned in confusion. “Alright, why are you so happy all the time? It’s making everyone uncomfortable” he blurted out. The Keeper handed Shinji a series of photographs, all with time stamps. One was a picture of a much younger Keeper with his wife, a homely yet kindly looking woman, another of him leading a tea ceremony with young children, and another of him receiving an award of some sort. The Keeper pointed to the first photo. “My wife and I when we first got married back in the 70s. Never met a more energetic and lovely woman…” he trailed off, his face dropping. “To be honest, I am actually happy neither my daughter nor my wife lived to see what would become of our world. Nor could I stomach the thought of having to put either one of them down…but to answer your question, I have this group to tend to. You are strangers, yes. But at least now this old man has company. And I think that is enough to warrant a cheerful disposition, don’t you think?” Shinji nodded. “Yeah, I suppose it does” he answered with a smile. ===================================== Outside, Akiko and Haruna scrubbed up the blood while Ronin and Takeshi buried the bodies behind the garden. The sun was setting, and Jun and Sung-min had not returned. Soo Yung and Jae Eun were chatting together in Korean by the window, both armed with a rifle. Soo Yung giggled and asked, “So what was Jun like before this?” Jae Eun smiled somberly and replied, “He was a nerd and a dweeb. Socially awkward, no experience with girls from my first impressions, and was very much a guy with his nose stuck in the books and computer” Soo Yung reclined and teased, “And to think, you could have gone with a jock” prompting Jae Eun to no acknowledging. “Yeah…but in the end, I am happy I am with Jun. He isn’t the guy I fell in love with anymore…but he is still the man I want to be with the rest of my life” she admitted. Soo Yung shrugged, “I always went for the different kind of crowd” she confessed. Jae Eun looked confused. “What do you mean?” she questioned. Soo Yung shifted uncomfortably. “I mean…I used to sleep with men and women in private. In the Kpop culture, if you are bisexual, you are fired, so I best thought to keep it quiet” Jae Eun smiled and rubbed Soo Yung’s arm. “Don’t worry about that here. We are all a family…including you”, causing Soo Yung to blush. “Thank you” she said under her breath. Haruna and Akiko came up to the window in a huff. “You twos turn now” Akiko grunted. Jae Eun and Soo Yung hopped down and handed the other ladies the rifles, as they went to clean up the blood. ============================ Jun and Sung-min were about to cross over a final hill that blocked the path to the house, when the sound of nearby walkers alerted them. Jun pointed to a drainage duct under the road and dove into it, with Sung-min close behind. The walkers were thankfully heading in the other direction from the house, but Jun, using a mirror, noticed that the herd was several hundred strong. “Christ there are tons of the dead” he hoarsely gasped. The thunder of an impending storm shook the air, and rain began to fall. Sung-min hunkered down and murmured “Might as well get comfy, we’ll be here for a while” as darkness fell over the area. ======================================================================== On the next episode of The Walking Dead Japan: As Jun and Sung-min return to the group, the newest threat makes their move.

NEW CAST: Hogun -Hiroyuki Ikeuchi Chairwoman Lee – Seohyun Summary: As Jun and Sung-min return to the group, the newest threat makes their move. Episode 209 – Pure Intentions The rain poured for what seemed like an eternity. Jun felt himself getting colder and colder, while Sung-min used a pocket mirror to check on the herd above them. Only a handful were still shambling above them, but he could only see when the lightning flashed. Since they were on mostly flat ground, a few errant bolts struck the ground, shaking the drainage tunnel. Jun finally had enough and stepped out, with his knife drawn. Sung-min shot and hissed, “What are you doing?” but before he could say anything, a tall walker approached them, his face torn to shreds. He snarled and turned to face the two men, when a bolt flickered down and struck the walker, sending a spray of blood and skull fragments flying around the area. Jun was knocked on his back from the impact and upon picking himself up he smiled at Sung-min. “Think that was a sign?” Sung-min asked jokingly. Jun laughed, “If only” ============================== The storm intensified, and the group stayed huddled in the Traditional House, as the rain crashed into the siding like hail. Haruna kept looking outside the window from the kitchen, her gut twisting into a ball. Ronin quietly walked up to her and joined her by the window. “I can’t think of my son dying too” she confessed, worry dripping from her voice. “Jun can take care of himself. I wouldn’t worry. Sung-min is a good man, and he will protect him, I’m sure” Ronin replied in a comforting tone. He smiled and gently placed his hand atop hers. “Besides…you’ve got me, don’t you?” he asked, slightly squeezing her hand. Haruna squeezed his hand even harder and smiled at him. “I do. I just pray my only son will make it out of this alive” Akiko and Jae Eun were loading guns, while Kasune and Soo Yung kept watch. Shinji and Takeshi had joined The Keeper in watching from the top of the house. However the rainfall was so strong that seeing anything was near impossible. A single walker was wandering around in the distance, only to fall into a rain filled gullet, sinking to the bottom. Shinji checked his gun and looked towards the main road leading to the Traditional House. A few abandoned cars were littering the sides, but it was hauntingly quiet. Takeshi had brought a cucumber with him, and snapped it in half, offering Shinji one of the halves. Shinji gratefully accepted it, and took a bite. “Rains like this in the country everyday from what I have heard” Takeshi commented, his mouth full of cucumber. Shinji nodded, half listening. “I should have gone instead” he said, looking off into the distance. Takeshi crooked his head. “And why is that?” he pondered. Shinji hung his head and replied, “Because I am more expendable than Jun. He means more to us than I do” he bemoaned. Takeshi slapped Shinji across the face, casing Shinji to recoil in shock. “Don’t you ever say that shit again!” thundered Takeshi. “You are not the loser of the group, you are not expendable. That kind of talk leads nowhere. We all play a part in surviving now, no matter how messed up we are. If you had been killed, who would have saved Kasune? You were the one to disarm that Reborn. Not Jun, not Ronin. YOU. And that talk about being expendable? Bull. SHIT. Your life matters.” Shinji gulped. “And those cultists? Did their lives matter?” he asked. Takeshi’s face grew stern. “Nowadays? No. They don’t. I will kill a hundred men before letting one of you die” he stated, causing The Keeper to smile. Shinji pursed his lips. “I would too. I won’t let anything terrible happen ever again” he promised. Takeshi nodded and patted him on the cheek. “Sorry about the slap, but you were depressing me, you sad sack of shit” he replied with a chuckle, causing Shinji and The Keeper to laugh. ====================================== Jun and Sung-min arrived at the gates of the Traditional House, and were about to open the gate, when Sung-min shot up a hand. “Shh” he hissed. They listened and heard a faint huff come from the nearby bushes. Jun snuck up to the bushes and quickly reached in, and threw out a young kid around the age of 16, dressed in rags with blood smeared across his body. Jun whipped out his revolver and pressed it against the kid’s head. “Don’t move…what are you doing here?” he demanded. The kid chuckled and chanted, “Blood for blood, life and death all encompassing. All shall be brought before the priestess’s feet in holy light” Sung-min shrugged and punched the kid, sending him flying into the grass. Jun shrugged and went to check him for weapons, when the kid rolled over and flung open his rags, revealing a crude time bomb strapped to his chest. The other two men ran as the kid began to laugh manically, giving a strap a hearty tug. The bomb exploded, briefly deafening Jun. Sung-min helped him up and flung open the gates throwing him in the courtyard. Jun stumbled towards a double image of a worried Jae Eun, who embraced him. The Keeper opened a window and shouted, “We should go before the herd hears that!” Takeshi, using his rifle, noticed more figures appear out from the nearby bushes, all armed with knives and sharp weapons. Lining his sights, he shot one in the head, dropping the figure. Another jumped at Jun, who shot him in the chest. The Reborn clutched his chest, only to have his head yanked backwards by The Keeper, and have his eye socket pierced with a long, thin knife. The final Reborn held in his hand a needle with a strange liquid, causing Ronin, who had just arrived, to squint in confusion. The Reborn stabbed wildly at anyone near him, and then locked his gaze onto Ronin. Ronin blocked the cultist’s forearm, and used his other elbow to smash into the jaw of the cultist. He then ducked and using his body weight threw the cultist onto the ground. Then, in one smooth motion Ronin pulled out his dragon 1911, and the mouth of the dragon spewed fire, as the bullet slammed into the head of the Reborn. The group stood in shock from the attack, and Ronin picked up the needle. “This can’t be what I think it is” he gasped. Jun looked at the liquid. “That looks like the same stuff used in the holding area back in Tokyo” he noted. “Why is it all the way out here?” Ronin popped the needle off and pulled out the liquid cartridge. “I think we should have the scientists aboard the Shinda take a look at this, when we get there” he suggested, pocketing the vial. Jun dusted himself off and ordered: “We should pack” Ronin approached Jun and asked, “Find anything out there?” Jun shook his head. “No. Just dead out there. Thankfully, the Shinda will be here within the day” Ronin checked his wristwatch. “You contacted the Shinda 3 days ago at 4 PM. It’s now 1 PM. We have to get there within 3 hours” Jun nodded. “We can manage it, I am sure” he replied confidently. The group packed everything into the truck in a little over an hour, with the only people left being The Keeper and Shinji. The Keeper packed his duffle bag into the truck and then went back into the house. He found Shinji staring at the Samurai armor on the display. “We should go son” he suggested. Shinji picked up the helmet and placed it on his head. “I don’t want to leave this here” he bemoaned. The Keeper nodded and the noticed a herd approaching from the south side of the house. “DAMMIT!” he shouted “How did they get here?” he asked. Jun saw the herd and yelled at Ronin “If we don’t go we will be overrun!” Ronin shot him an angry look and shouted, “And Shinji?” Jun’s radio crackled to life. “GO! We will distract them!” The Keeper barked. Jun dialed into the frequency. “And how will you two get there?” “We have a van in the shed! Just go! We will meet you there!” Jun nodded at Ronin, who couldn’t move the truck due to the walkers. Suddenly, the front door swung open and everyone in the back of the truck was amazed: Shinji had donned the Samurai armor and unsheathed his katana, shouting, “COME ON YOU DEAD BASTARDS!” the walkers then swarmed towards Shinji. Shinji raised his sword and swung it in an arch, slicing several walker’s heads off, then raising it, bringing it down to cut deep into the face of another walker. Shinji unsheathed his tanto and stabbed a nearby walker in the eye, using the time he had free to pull the sword out from the walker skull. The Keeper exited the house and using a Yumi bow shot a walker down. The two of them ran to the van, with Shinji cutting down walkers left and right. Shinji hopped into the back of the van, while The Keeper started the van and tore out of the shed, and onto the main road. The Keeper looked back at the Traditional House with a look of sadness. “I am going tp miss that place” he mournfully sighed. Shinji, who was panting and wheezing chimed in, “At least this is intact!” The Keeper smiled and replied, “You did the Bushido code proud. You harkened back to the Edo period, with your bravery and then some!” he beamed. Shinji gave an exhausted thumb up and collapsed, causing The Keeper to chuckle amusedly. The two vehicles met along the main road and traveled for an hour, as the rain slowly turned to fog, creating thick clouds that made driving difficult. Jun pulled out a map and looked it over, observing that the dock was close. He pointed to a faint outline of a coast guard shack. The two vehicles then parked near the shack, with Jun and The Keeper shaking hands after leaving their vehicles. “You two are goddamn insane!” Jun said with a happy laugh. The Keeper grinned. “Shinji is resting in the back. All that armor tends to make a man sweat a little” he explained with a hearty laugh. He then pulled out a satellite phone and dialed a number. Jun cricked his neck. “What are you doing?” he asked. The Keeper pressed a green button and spoke into the phone. “This is Major Rokamura Kojima, calling for the Shinda. We are ready for pickup, but we have infected in the vicinity” He then hung the phone up and smiled at Jun. “You can call me Kojima if you want” he commented to a stunned Jun. Ronin stepped up to Kojima. “You are a member of the JSDF?” Kojima shrugged. “Yes, but after hearing about what the JSDF did in Tokyo, I figured it would be best to keep that info quiet, don’t you think?” Jun nodded. “At least you gave us shelter and didn’t try to kill us” Takeshi stepped forward. “So…now what?” he asked, noticing the handful of walkers shambling towards them. Jun, Sung-min, Ronin and Kasune drew their knives and began to attack the walkers, each killing one in rapid succession. One walker grabbed Kasune and almost bit her, but a quick shot from Soo Yung killed it. Kasune winked at Soo Yung, who blushed. The last walker approached the group, but a gunshot brought it down from the other direction. A man walked out, armed with a scoped rifle. He was dressed in leather with a skull sewn to his jacket, his head wearing a mask made from a woman’s face. He lowered the rifle and stated, “I am Enforcer Hogun. You have been charged with spilling the blood of Reborn brethren. We can either do this the easy way, or you can do something stupid…your choice” Jun stepped forward. “And what would be our punishment? Death?” he demanded. Hogun chuckled. “You are a bold one, I’ll give you that” he racked a shot and fidgeted the rifle in his hands. “I think you are intelligent enough to know the answer to that, friend” he proclaimed snapping his fingers. Out of the nearby foliage, a dozen or more Reborn stepped out, armed with rifles and knives. “So that you know we aren’t bullshitting you, these guns are all loaded. So make up your mind Mr. Masumoto” Hogun challenged. Jun frowned in shock and confusion. Jima leaned over and asked Haruna, “Isn’t that your family name?” “HOW…DID YOU KNOW THAT NAME?!” Jun demanded. Hogun smiled through the mask. “The priestess told me…she also told us to not take our chances with any of you…and I intend to take her at her divine word” he raised the rifle and aimed it at Jun. The other Reborn raised their rifles also. Jun and the other quietly raised their weapons. “I guess we choose the second option” Haruna loudly stated. Hogun shrugged, replying with “Suit yourself friends” raising his hand as if to order his men to fire. Jun felt his finger slide onto the trigger of his revolver, as he aimed down the sights directly at Hogun. Suddenly, a low rumbling filled the air, which became louder and more rapid. The sound now became recognizable as helicopter blades in the air. An Osprey helicopter flew out from the fog, and a loud whirring noise cut through the air. The onboard minigun on the Osprey sliced through 2 of the Reborn before Hogun could flinch. A few walkers shambled towards the sound, only to be cut in two via the rapid stream of bullets. The Reborn ran into the foliage with Hogun staring down Jun. The Osprey hovered in the air for a moment, and then shot back into the thick fog bank. Shinji popped out of the van and looked at the group. “What did I miss?” he asked. Suddenly, Jun saw the water displace rapidly, as a huge shape cut through the fog. An enormous aircraft carrier sailed by them, as a loud crack sang through the air. “PEOPLE OF JAPAN. DO NOT BE AFRAID, OUR INTENTIONS ARE PURE. WE ARE THE SHINDA, AND YOU ARE NOW SAFE!” an almost god-like voice boomed through the air. Several Ospreys and Copters hovered overhead, with one landing in an open space on the beach. A dozen soldiers, dressed in Army Camo with a red “J” on the front surrounded the area, all armed with rifles. An attractive woman in a brown shirt with a white body hugging skirt stepped out and smiled. “You are Jun Masumoto’s group?” she asked. Jun nodded. The woman turned to Kojima, who simply nodded. She smiled and pressed a green button on a fob. “Well then...welcome aboard the Shinda” she said, gesturing them to follow her into the Osprey. Jun pointed to the truck. “What about our supplies?” he asked. The woman spoke to one soldier in Korean, who walked over to the truck. “What did you just say?” Ronin demanded. The woman smiled. “That classified” she replied. Jae Eun piped up, “She said to bring the stuff aboard” causing the woman to look at her in shock. “*I am Korean*” Jae Eun told her in Korean. The woman nodded. “My name is Chairwoman Lee” she said, bowing slightly. “We are not intending to ROB you, but for now, your supplies and weapons are to be confiscated. Hand them over please” she politely commanded. Sung-min drew his gun and blurted, “And let me guess, more military brouhaha if we don’t. Cut the shit, you are robbing us” Lee smiled and opened her arms, as a soldier in the background shot a walker. “I am merely doing as I am told. You can leave now and face those savages, or come with us. The choice is yours” she replied. Kojima put a hand on Jun’s shoulder. “Listen, you might not trust her, but trust ME. Please, Jun, for everyone’s sake” he begged. Jun sighed and gave her his revolver. He nodded to the others, who gave up their weapons. A soldier looked at Shinji still in the Samurai armor with a raised eyebrow. “Nice duds” he commented. Shinji laughed and then scurried over to the main group. The supplies were loaded and the group herded into the Osprey. They then took off, and flew towards the Shinda. ============================= Hogun stomped up to the captured Korsha and punched him across the face with fury. “You said they were soft! You never mentioned they had the goddamn Army behind them!” He spat angrily. The Korsha, whose face was swollen and bloody from the torture laughed. “You dumb shits should have never taken them on. They will wipe you stupid assholes off the planet” he muttered, spitting out a tooth. Hogun turned and sighed. “At least we know where they are” he grunted. He then spun around and grabbed the Korsha by the jaw, and shoving his fingers in his mouth pulled hard, ripping the jaw off the Korsha. Blood shot everywhere as the Russian began to scream in a guttural fashion. Hogun then picked up a nearby brick and savagely beat his head in, as the other Reborn watched in horror and shock. Hogun panted heavily, dropping the brick and standing to his feet. One Reborn approached him nervously. “What will our brethren do now?” he asked, backing away ever so slightly. Hogun wiped his mouth and glowered at the Reborn, “Not stand around being an eyesore to Izanami that’s what!” He stormed into the tent of the High Priestess and bowed. “We lost them on board the Shinda, ma’am, what is out next plan?” he asked, never looking at her. “Rise” she ordered. Hogun stood and straightened his stance. The priestess turned to face him. “We will follow them, and take them for ourselves” she answered. It was Dr. Mesuji, who grinned confidently. =--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------=

NEW CAST:
Tetsuo Hamasaki - Yōsuke Kubozuka Chyoko Hamasaki- Tamura Meimi Mr. Fujiwara - Sadao Abe High Priest of the Reborn - Kenji Kohashi Summary: A familiar enemy finds her destiny, as a trail of bodies is left in her path
Episode 210- Death’s Shadow The rain poured around her, soaking her clothes and sending a hard shiver down her body. Dr. Keiko Mesuji sat on the roof, fingering the small vial of IHV 001 M2 Antigen in an attempt to keep herself from falling into an even deeper depression. She remembered what had happened back at the facility, and how she got here. [5 WEEKS AGO] The four of them climbed into the copter, as the base quickly became overrun with the dead. As they shot into the sky and flew away, Mesuji felt a deep pang of remorse, however not for the hundreds dead at her hands directly, but more for being unable to stop this with her Antigen. It had been her goal these past weeks to perfect the cure, but with the facility now about to be overrun, there was little to no chance to save her vision of a more pure Japan. No, it was all over now. The copter landed at a small JSDF base near the city outskirts, guarded by only around 10 soldiers. After exiting the copter, Mesuji went and locked herself in her quarters, hoarding the last 10 vials of IHV 001 M2 in a small metal case. She was lying on her cot when the door opened. The Minister of Defense, Mr. Fujiwara, entered the room and sat on the chair across from her cot, an audio recorder in his chubby hands. He silently pressed the play button, and the recording crackled from the speaker: [Fujiwara] – Tell us what happened? Where is the rest of the faculty? [Dr. Anno] – They were killed by the dead who were released. As for the rest, they either escaped or were killed… [Fujiwara] –Killed? By the dead I assume? [Dr. Anno] – No sir…Dr. Hakugane was shot by Dr. Mesuji. [Fujiwara]- Shot?! Was he infected?! [Dr. Anno]- No sir…she wanted to escape from the facility, and there were 5 of us. The Copter could only hold 4, and she…SHE SHOT HIM. OH GOD I- Fujiwara clicked off the recorder and frowned angrily at Mesuji. “You killed a man just to save your ass. What do you have to say to that?” he growled. Mesuji shrugged. “I did what I had to in order to survive. Would you have not done that same?” she asked in a mockingly innocent tone. Fujiwara bit his upper lip in anger and stood. “You have an hour to pack up and leave this place. You will be given a gun, a knife, and a few supplies. Afterwards, you are going to exit the building, under penalty of death. Understood?” he calmly told her. Mesuji stood up. “I am too valuable to simply throw away!!” she yelled. Fujiwara turned to her and asked, “Valuable in what way?” Mesuji choked, “I can save Japan! I can do it!” Fujiwara shook his head. “Japan is dead. I am not going to argue…I just want to spend the rest of my time with my family. Now get the hell out of here” he said sadly, leaving the room. He closed the door, leaving Mesuji to sit on her bed, in a state of shock. She then packed a few things, including the samples, a Glock 19 with an additional clip, a military knife, and a flashlight with a crank. She watched as the soldiers slowly shut the gate on her. She then took off into parts unknown. She had walked for hours, her feet killing her to the point to where she took off her heels, and threw them in a wrecked car. She broke into a despondent show store and stole a pair of boots, leaving behind a dead walker along the front of the store. She avoided the dead as much as possible, killing only those directly in her path. The following night, she had climbed up a water tower for the night, having made a crude bed of her backpack and her army jacket she stole. Suddenly, the pitch black sky glowed orange. She awoke to the sound of explosions and planes buzzing overhead. She watched as one of the planes, a bomber, dumped a large plume of Napalm onto the streets below. She could hear screams from people caught in the crosshairs, now being burned alive. The screams were that of women, children and men, all begging and howling like wounded animals in the night. The sound of a child screaming, “MY EYES ARE GONE MOMMY!” haunted her enough to prevent her from sleeping. She instead sat and watched as the buildings began to glow orange and red, burning as if a nuclear bomb had gone off. Mesuji heard someone climbing up the ladder, and saw a teenager, no older than 13, attempting to escape the hell below. Mesuji raised her pistol and warned, “Get. DOWN” The teenager began to cry. “Please miss…I don’t want to die! PLEASE LET ME-” His pleas were cut short due to Mesuji blowing his brains out, causing his body to tumble into the darkness below her. She then stuffed two wads of cotton into her ear, to muffle the horrors outside her safe spot. The next morning, she awoke to see the sky black from smoke. A thin ash covered her, causing from the napalmed buildings the previous night. She brushed herself off, and packed her things, hearing faint cries, moans and gurgling from the now charred streets. She climbed down and began to go through the streets. The formerly clean streets were now a mess of burnt pavement, flesh and cars, now misshapen piles of melted metal. People who had been exposed to the napalm reached for her, too burnt to beg for help. One was a woman who had huddled over her new born, but the fire had roasted both of them alive. One man whose legs were fused to the pavement called out to her. She approached and stabbed him in the head. She watched with curious fascination as his body slumped to the ground. The woods on the edge of town were a block away, and that was her way out of here. She then walked past the moaning, melted people and marched into the woods, as thunder began to rumble in the distance. She sat on the roof of the building, her army jacket now entirely soaked, and her body sending a hard shiver through her spine. She crawled under an awning, her shivering getting worse. Her sight began to worsen, and she slipped into the arms of darkness. =================================================== She awoke to find herself in a warm bed, with candles lit around her. She noticed her clothing was new, and she no longer had any of her possessions with her. She sat up and slipped out of her bed. The door to the small room was locked, prompting her to shake the knob enough to rattle it. Suddenly, the door unlocked, and a young girl stepped through, her smile shocking Mesuji. Mesuji feigned a smile and asked, “Where am I sweetie?” The little girl smiled and handed her a plate of rice and vegetables. “Dad says you need to eat! So here you are!” she sang in a cheery tone. Mesuji took the plate and bowed slightly. She noticed how hungry she was, and shoveled the food down as fast as possible. After eating she found the door to be open, and she stepped through the hallway. It was enclosed, and carpeted with an off white fluff flooring. She found the girl sitting at a table, an older man softly speaking to her before noticing Mesuji had entered the room. He stood and blocked the girl from Mesuji’s view. “You’re awake” he noted, making Mesuji nod. He pulled a Beretta from the table and glanced at it. “You try anything stupid, and you won’t have to worry about hospitality again. Understand?” he warned. Mesuji again nodded and slowly approached the table, sitting away from the two of them. The father cleared his throat. “Name is Tetsuo Hamasaki. This is my daughter, Chyoko. How about your name, since we’re all getting friendly with each other?” Mesuji sipped her cup of water. She swallowed and replied, “Keiko Mesuji” Tetsuo nodded. “Doctor Mesuji” he added, holding up her level security badge. Mesuji sighed. “That was a long time ago. Before all this happened” Tetsuo slapped the badge on the table. “What you are now is someone trying to survive. Us two, we’ve been holed up here for the past 4 days. Since we are in an area with fewer people, there are less of the dead to threaten us. So for now, we’re safe…and I would like to keep it that way” he warned. Mesuji nodded and continued eating. She stopped when Chyoko handed her a snack cake. “My last one” she said, smiling kindly. Mesuji took the cake and split it in two, handing the other piece to the child. Mesuji was shocked to feel herself actually smile genuinely. “That is very sweet of you, my dear” she complimented, taking a tiny bite from her half of the cake. Chyoko chomped down on her half and giggled. =================================== That night, Mesuji knocked on Tetso’s door. “Come in” he answered. Mesuji entered to find the man staring at a picture of a Caucasian woman with blonde hair and striking brown eyes. She was next to Tetsuo, and they were both sipping a drink together. “Yes?” Tetsuo asked, shuffling the picture in a nearby book. Mesuji straightened herself. “I just wanted to say thank you for your hospitality” she said with genuine gratefulness. Tetsuo half smiled, “That was Chyoko’s doing, not mine. She found you up on our room, almost hypothermic. I…was against bringing in another person, but she insisted” he explained. He then pulled out the picture from the book. “My…wife was American. Her name was Eleanor Whitaker. We met on a business trip to the UK, and we fell in love. She was the best mother Chyoko could have ever been with” He then buried his face in his hands, trying to hide his grief. Mesuji rubbed his neck in a soothing manner, with his placing his hand on one of hers. She was not used to human contact like this. “That’s very kind of you” Tetsuo murmured “I just…I haven’t seen Chyoko act that way she does around you around anyone else. It’s like she is connected to you” He said, smiling at the Doctor. Mesuji smiled back at him. “I could stay if you would allow me” Mesuji offered. Tetsuo stood up and brushed the hair away from her eyes. “I would like that” he said, smiling sadly “Chyoko needs a woman in her life to raise her. I can only do so much, especially in this new world” Mesuji took his hand in hers and sighed. “I suppose I can do that” she teasingly sighed. She then unbuttoned her top, and began to take off his shirt, as they kissed passionately. =================================== Tetsuo awoke the following morning, looking to his left, and seeing a still sleeping Mesuji next to him. He quietly got out of the bed and put on his pants, causing Mesuji to awaken. She turned and faced him, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. “What time is it?” she mumbled. Tetsuo checked his watch. “Its half past eight” he replied. “Time for me to give Chyoko her treatments” Mesuji got out of bed, ignoring the fact she was completely unclothed. “What treatments?” she asked. Tetsuo showed her a large needle filled with an opaque solution. “This is an experimental treatment for her nervous system disorder. If she is without the solution, she will convulse and eventually die. Thing is, I can handle her dying, but what I can’t handle is her turning. I can’t be the one to put her down” He answered. “I have only enough of the solution to last today and tomorrow. After that, she will have another day to live, and then…” he trailed off, hanging his head. Mesuji hugged him from behind. “I might be able to help you out with that predicament, Tetsuo. With her turning” she cooed. Tetsuo turned and embraced her. “I appreciate you offering to put her down…but I have to do it” he said in a shaky tone. Mesuji slipped on a robe and went into her room, pulling out one of the IHV 001 M2 solution vials from the metal box. She showed a vial of the pink solution to Tetsuo. “I was working on a cure for this disease, or whatever it is. I eventually perfected the cure down to this” Tetsuo took the vial from her hands and looked curiously at the pink liquid inside. “This will work?” he asked skeptically. Mesuji nodded. “It will. I can confirm it has an effectiveness of 99.5%” Tetsuo slowly nodded. “Alright. We will give her this cure after she runs out of her medication and she passes” He confirmed, sadly sitting on his bed, Mesuji sat next to him, and kissed him on his cheek. “You’ve got me. I won’t let you go through this alone, I promise” she softly promised him. Tetsuo kissed her and said, “I wish I had met you before all this” he confessed. No you don’t, Mesuji thought to herself. The next two days, the three of them spent their time together playing games, chatting, baking, and giving Chyoko her 15th birthday, with Mesuji making her a cake, complete with candles. Tetsuo noticed Mesuji growing closer to his daughter, and noticed he was getting closer to her too. Then came the day he had been praying would never happen: he ran out of the solution. Chyoko was now bedridden, and was shuddering uncontrollably, causing her to start to choke on the lack of air. Mesuji entered her room, and prepared a needle full of the Antigen. She kissed Chyoko on her forehead, and injected the pink fluid in Chyoko’s neck. After a short time, Chyoko stopped shuddering, and went limp. Tetsuo burst into tears and held his daughter’s hand as he wept. Mesuji comforted him, and said “We should bury her, my love” Tetsuo nodded and stood. He went into the kitchen, still decorated with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” signs and confetti. He sat in one of the chairs, and slumped forward. Mesuji sat next to him. “I don’t know what to do anymore” he confessed, his face still red from crying. Mesuji stepped behind Tetsuo and rubbed his back. “I am here for you” she said. Tetsuo began to sob once again, but was suddenly stopped by the sharp pain coming from his neck. Mesuji had stabbed him in the back of the head, causing him to become paralyzed. He fell over, his face frozen in perpetual confusion and betrayal and Mesuji sat on top of him and firmly pressed a nearby sofa pillow on his face. He grunted under the soft pillow, unable to move, and Mesuji pressed the pillow even harder against his face, until the grunting stopped. She removed the pillow, and stabbed him in the eyeball with a nearby knife. She then noticed that Chyoko had reanimated, and was standing in the hallway, her nose dripping blood. Mesuji stood and slowly walked towards her, and in one motioned raised the knife and plunged it into Chyoko’s head, sending the girl crumpling into a limp heap. Mesuji stood and began to collect what supplies she could, stuffing Tetsuo’s Beretta in her waist band, and opened the door to leave. She took one last look at the carnage, and sighed sadly. She remembered the lighter fluid under the counter, and emptied it all over the room. She lit a match and tossed it in, causing the room to burst into flames. She then walked away, as the walkers ignored her and drew closer to the fire. ================================ Mesuji walked for what seemed like days, stopping only to sleep, usually in a tall tower, or some tucked away corner away from prying eyes. Her once spotless clothes became more and more filthy, her shoes more worn, and her face became dirty and smudged. She could hear remnants of humanity, mostly in the form of raiders attacking innocent people attempting to survive. She heard one family consisting of a mother and her two daughters being violated in the room next to her in an old gas station, as she remained deathly quiet. The noises, normally haunting and horrific, did nothing to her. The next morning she left. She noticed the rain begin to fall, as her tattered and worn clothing began to get wet. She ignored it, and kept walking for the whole day. That night, she found an abandoned Semi truck that had stalled on the highway. A single walker approached her, and received a sharp knife to the skull, killing it. She climbed inside the cab, closed the door, and snuggled up with some old blankets, as she drifted off to sleep. The cab door being knocked on awoke her. She grabbed her pistol and slowly opened the door. A group of about 5 people, dressed in bloody, human pelt covered clothing surrounded the truck. All were armed with knives, axes, pickaxes, and spears. She climbed out and stood confidently, as one man approached her. “I am the High Priest of the Reborn. In the name of the goddess, Izanami, you are to either confess her teachings, or suffer the consequences” he announced, pointing a long stick in her face. Mesuji cocked her head. “And what would those entail? Be being used as a sexual party favor?” She asked. The leader replied, “You would be killed” Mesuji nodded. “I see. You are the leader?” she asked again. The Priest nodded, prompting Mesuji to smile warmly. She then promptly shot him in the head, causing the other cultists to raise their weapons. One member shouted, “She killed him! Kill this witch!” Mesuji held up a vial of Antigen, and shouted, “This will make every unbeliever fall before you!” A large man approached her, his face covered in a woman’s skinned face. “A vial of pink water. What could that possibly do?” he asked amusedly. Mesuji smiled, “This is a cure, but it’s not as…viable as I had hoped. It can and will work but only if I can find a way to perfect it” One Reborn piped up, “The Shinda! That ship must have the equipment you need!” Mesuji grinned with confidence. “Then that is where we go next” The large man stopped her. “You killed the high priest. Someone will have to replace him. You see, my group here is not as…fanatic as the others. Thus, we are more willing to allow for changes in the actual turn of events. In short, we’ll lie” Mesuji shrugged. “Then I am the high priestess” she said happily. The other Reborn bowed their heads. “Well…shall we go?” Mesuji asked, eyeing her new followers. ======================================================================== On the next episode of The Walking Dead Japan: Jun and his group attempt to join the crew of the Shinda, while Mesuji draws closer to a confrontation.

NEW CAST: Private Yumika – Maki Horikita Admiral Yamamoto – Hiroshi Abe Chief Engineer Sasuke -Kiyohiko Shibukawa Summary: Jun and his group attempt to join the crew of the Shinda, with varying results. Episode 211 – Rules to Live By The Osprey landed on the main flight deck, and Kojima stepped out, greeted by a young man in military attire. After the two spoke, Kojima turned and faced the group, who were now stepping out of the Osprey. “You will be held in the main holding block, while Admiral Yamamoto interviews you” he explained. Jun perked up his head. “Interviews? What for?” he asked, feeling slightly uneasy. Kojima smiled warmly. “Don’t worry kiddo! The Admiral is a teddy bear…just don’t piss him off” he teased as the group was escorted into a small elevator. They went down a floor, and walked into a narrow steel and concrete corridor, with personnel bustling about, heading into control rooms, science facilities & personal quarters. After passing by several of these assorted rooms, they arrived at a large holding area, with several beds, lamps and a single TV on the wall. Kojima stepped inside with the group following him. “You will stay here until the interviews are completed” he instructed. Ronin piped up, “So we are prisoners?” Kojima sighed. “Look, Yamamoto is a…harsh and no-nonsense man. He doesn’t screw around or easily trust people like you” Jae Eun frowned “Like us?” she asked. “People who are experienced in killing both the dead and the living. You have gone much farther than most with your travels. The majority of the people here were rescued. In fact a large percentage doesn’t even know how to kill a walker” he explained, switching on the TV. A Korean Drama popped on, prompting Soo Yung and Jae Eun to sit and begin watching. Jun stepped outside the door, and straightened himself. A woman approached him, dressed in a modest grey skirt with a blue blouse. She was in her 20s and had a round, yet cute face. “Jun Masumoto, the Admiral will speak with you now, please” she said, pointing to the hallway. Jun nodded and followed her. The Admiral’s quarters was filled with naval memorabilia, including WWII era battleship models, airplanes, an officer’s pistol and a single mannequin with a burnt Kimono. Jun was drawn to the Kimono, touching the cloth. “That was my grandfather’s Kimono he wore the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Don’t worry, it’s no longer radioactive” a booming voice told him. Jun calmly turned and bowed. “I apologize for being nosey, I-” “Sit down and let’s talk Masumoto” Yamamoto interrupted. Jun sat down and relaxed. Yamamoto pulled out a file and thumbed through it, breezing through pages as if uninterested. “Jun Masumoto…age 20…height, blah blah blah…attended Tokyo University with an interest in Business. Humph. I suppose that doorway is now shut, wouldn’t you think?” he asked, making Jun shifted in his seat uneasily. “Also, from what Kojima has said, you have become quite the killer. Nothing to be ashamed of, since the dead are a threat to not be taken lightly. Unless of course he wasn’t just referring to JUST the dead…was he?” Yamamoto questioned, looking Jun directly in the eyes. Jun cleared his throat. “We…I have killed several people as of our current conversation. It’s not something I am proud of, but it had to be done” he replied calmly. Yamamoto plopped the file down and leaned back in his leather chair. “Killing a man for food is unacceptable. But killing a man in self defense is. Those Reborn savages, the Korshas, that elitist bitch Mesuji, everyone Kojima told me you had previously encountered, were worthy of death. BUT…” he said, leaning toward Jun with a stern look on his face, “You may think you are big shit here. Truth is we have had a ton of scientists act like you do. All high and mighty. But on board, you follow MY orders, MY rules. The rules keep everyone on this tub alive. Some piece of trash acts up; they get tossed overboard, or shot. You have a 3 strike rule, all of you” Jun smiled. “3 strikes? That’s rather lenient” he commented. Yamamoto chuckled. “You are a smarmy bastard aren’t you?” he replied. “Hell, I won’t lie, I kind of like you kid, but we will have to see if the same can be said for your other members. After our chat is done, you will return to the holding room until I assign you a job” Jun shot up. “Assign us a job? What do you have in mind?” he demanded. Yamamoto crossed his feet and plopped them atop the wooden table between the two men. “Whatever I think would fit your skill set. Now get out before I change my mind about liking you” he gruffly ordered. Jun left, with the female officer standing by. “Private Yumika, bring in the Yakuza agent” he ordered, lighting a cigar and laying his on the back of the chair, as the Private ran off. ========================== Ronin sat down stiffly and adjusted his collar. “Comfortable, Yakuza?” Yamamoto asked, sipping his tea. “I suppose…” Ronin trailed off. “Look, I know about you, Ronin. You were the top hitman for the Zatobushi family, and did a damn fine job. So, when I heard you were with Masumoto’s group, I raised my eyebrows a bit. Let me ask you this as bluntly as I can: why in the hell would an assassin like you join some green college kid?” Ronin leaned forward, pointing towards the pack of cigarettes on the table. Yamamoto nodded, and passed the pack to Ronin, who picked it up with glee. “I joined, Admiral, because Jun is not the green kid you portray his as. He is vicious and unwavering. Someone we need to lead us in this hellhole we live in” he proudly proclaimed. Yamamoto raised an eyebrow. “So you are naturally better off leading us than me?” he asked. Ronin nodded. Yamamoto burst into a fit of laughter. “Oh my! You are certainly aren’t afraid to speak your mind. I admire that, Yakuza. Still, act up and you’re either out or out for good” He then dismissed Ronin. Private Yumika stood fidgeting trying to restrain herself. “Is there an issue Private?” Yamamoto asked harshly. The private took a quick look towards the exiting Ronin and shook her head. Yamamoto sighed. “I am sure he is taken. No need to ruin your composure. Now bring in…” he checked his notes “…Haruna Masumoto next please” he ordered. =============================== The entire afternoon was spent interviewing each member of Jun’s group, with the last person left being Jae Eun. She sat down and properly crossed her legs, sitting across from an exhausted Yamamoto. “Thank you for allowing us access aboard your fine vessel, Admiral” she said politely, smiling sweetly. Yamamoto’s tired face smiled as he poured himself a small glass of brandy. “DeJousne Suio: finest brandy in existence” he said pouring her a glass. She accepted the glass and sipped the amber alcohol. Her face scrunched up, trying to keep the polite smile from dropping. Yamamoto chuckled softly. “Oh I can tell you are Korean. Most people cough and sputter when they take a sip. You, you just down it. Korean’s, to the best of my knowledge, are the only people to be immune to alcohol’s pucker power” he said, swirling the amber liquid in his tumbler. He set the glass down and leaned toward her, his hands folded in a steeple. “Listen, Ms. Rhee, I know you are putting on a show for me, and it is a very fine show indeed. But deep down you are as savage as your other group members. Nothing really to be ashamed of, I assure you, but now, aboard this vessel, we have to act as one body. One slip in the machinery and the whole system falls apart, you understand?” She nodded and sipped the brandy again, the liquid becoming smoother in her mouth. She relaxed in the chair and asked, “Admiral, may I ask you something?” The admiral nodded. “You doing this…rescuing people and creating this ecosystem, this was not part of the plan by the government, was it?” Yamamoto shook his head. “No. The majority of the personnel here were stationed at the research facility where the cure was being developed. Dr. Mesuji was intelligent, creative, hell even a revolutionary thinker, but she had one thing that would hold back society: she was a ruthless animal. Killing people to better mankind is not the method to save others. Kindness, or rather, generosity, is the correct method” “And if the people you rescue are savages? Then what?” Haruna asked. Yamamoto sipped his brandy and replied “Then we do what’s needed for the benefit of others, even if it includes killing said savages” he then waved her out, reclining on the couch. Private Yumika entered the room. “That’s all of them, sir” she said, closing the door. Yamamoto approached her and locked the door, smiling at her. She sighed heavily, her breathe quivering. “Now, sir?” she asked. Yamamoto smiled even wider. “Yes, now” he replied. She then began to undress, as he leaned in to kiss her. ========================= “What a load of bureaucratic bullshit!” thundered Takeshi as he flopped down on his bed. “Even when I retired from being a detective I never had to deal with sophistry this dense!” “The man is at least being nice and giving us separate rooms” Shinji replied, lying on his bed. He had missed sleeping on a mattress, and not a thin blanket. Jun and Ronin were lying on their beds as well, staring at the ceiling. Jima was nosing through the movies on the shelf next to the TV. “Think he is a scam artist?” he asked, checking out the back of one DVD. Sung-min chuckled. “The Admiral is a navy man, so a bit of showing off is key to not looking like a goddamn suit potato” Jun piped up, “He says he will either kill us or throw us overboard. After 3 strikes” Ronin sat up. “3 strikes. That’s a very…lenient system don’t you think?” he asked. Jun nodded. “It’s lax as hell. But his rules his ship. And while we are here, we might as well abide by them” he said, turning over to get some sleep. Jima sat on his bed, replying with; “I hope you are making the right choice” =========================== The women in their section were also discussing what had just happened. Jae Eun reclined in her bed, with Akiko sitting across from her. “He’s an ass, but he has a great system here, I’ll admit that” she confessed. Akiko was reading a book, and she only uttered an unhappy grunt. Haruna and Kasune sat across from one another, with Haruna blinking sleepily. “Get some sleep girl” Kasune joking told her, as she looked over her hands for any imperfections left over from the scrubbing they endured upon arriving onboard. Jae Eun and Akiko were trying to sleep, while Soo Yung sat up in a huff. “We have food, shelter and strapping men with guns. I would say, especially on the last point, all is well” she joked, giving Kasune a coy smile. Haruna leaned back and relaxed, allowing the soft sheets to melt around her, as sleep enveloped her. Kasune got out of bed and approached Soo Yung. She leaned down and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Just say the word” she whispered, making Soo Yung smile slightly. ============================= The next morning the groups awoke to an airmen knocking on their doors. The two groups met in the Admiral’s quarters where Yamamoto stood, a series of documents laid out on the table before him. He silently pointed at the folders, and Jun picked up his. He flicked through it, before commenting with, “I am going to be a scavenge team leader?” Yamamoto nodded. “We need food to keep the population on board in healthy shape. We have vegetables and grains growing via hydroponic technology, but until they are fully grown, pre made food is required. You think you can handle it, Masumoto?” he asked with a somewhat confrontational tone. Jun nodded. The others read their assigned duties: Jae Eun would head the Korean to Japanese translations, Sung-min would be in charge of Osprey landing crew drills, Soo Yung would be in charge of flight deck supervisions, Haruna and Akiko would assist in medical operations, Jima would be a cook, Kasune would head weapon cataloging, Shinji would assist head computer engineer Sasuke with onboard duties, and finally Takeshi was to be appointed guard duty. Oddly, the only member not to be given a document was Ronin, who stayed in the Admiral’s quarters after the rest of his group had left to begin their training. “And why am I not assigned to a job?” Ronin asked, annoyance hanging heavily in his tone. Yamamoto set down a black folder, pushing it towards Ronin with his fingers. Ronin took the file and read it, with Yamamoto eyeing him the entire time. “No. No I won’t do it” Ronin angrily replied, throwing the document down on the table. Yamamoto shrugged. “So you want to be thrown overboard, is that it?” he asked annoyed. Ronin pursed his lips. “No, but this is unacceptable! I can’t just LEAVE!” he shouted. Yamamoto folded his arms across his chest. “It’s a routine operation. Nothing too dangerous or strenuous. Just report to our sister vessel, the Serizawa, and deliver these files. I don’t see what the big deal is really” he explained, growing more exasperated. Ronin kicked a chair out of the way and snarled, “Delivering files my goddamn ass! This is assassination!!” “LOOK. You will go and replace the captain with his first mate. Captain Norunaga is…less humane with the acceptance of assisting others in need. His first mate is more than willing to take over and be more sympathetic towards my goals” Ronin laughed. “So you want me to kill the guy you disagree with? WOW” he said in-between laughs. “Alright, if you feel as if you don’t have the balls to do this, I will find something else for you to do. Maybe…scavenge duty with Jun?” he proposed. Ronin nodded. “Fine. I’ll do that” he turned to leave. Yamamoto cleared his throat and loudly added, “OH AND KOBUKE, don’t you ever talk to me like that again” Ronin froze in place. “…you know my real name?” he asked, shaking from the shock. Yamamoto grinned and walked up the other man, handing him the document. “I am sure you wouldn’t want the others in your group to know about the Shinjuku murders…am I wrong?” he asked in a venomous manner. Ronin shook his head. “No, I don’t. Can you give me time to decide?” he asked. Yamamoto nodded. “You have a week to decide. If by next week you don’t take the job, then the whole world will know the truth about you. Now leave, before I have you thrown overboard for being an insubordinate little shit” the Admiral ordered. Ronin left the room, tucking the document in his vest as he walked down the hallway and into the main guest room. He balled a fist and punched the wall, alarming one guard enough to raise his gun. Ronin waved at the guard and walked back to his quarters. =-===================================== Shinji walked through the halls, as Sasuke, a thin and nerdy looking man pointed out certain details to pay close attention to. “So keep in mind, when dealing with the nuclear cells, you have to keep the pressure low, otherwise we will be on a giant floating Chernobyl, got it?” Sasuke instructed in a nasally tone, as Shinji gawked at the reactor. “I…I have so many questions I don’t even know where I would even begin to be honest” he confessed, garnering a smile from Sasuke. “I understand kid, so since it’s your first day on the job, you can ask as many questions as you like. What’s the first one?” Sasuke posed to Shinji. “How many people are on here?” Shinji blurted out. “Including your group, we now total of 270. 100 of the 270 people are made up of Japanese and South Korean soldiers rescued from the dead. About 43 are scientists your man Masumoto rescued from Mesuji’s death trap, and 4 are commanding officers: Admiral Yamamoto, First Mate Nakajima, Major Kojima, and me, head engineer. The rest are crew members and civilians like you. Next question?” “How are we going to survive on here? I mean, the food and supplies must be hard to keep up with here…” Shinji asked, looking at the rice cake in his pocket. “Hydroponics and a garden on one of the levels keeps us fed, but as for other supplies, we have enough here to last years. Only thing that will go dry and require landing to scout for are either the odd spare part or two, or medical supplies. The Admiral always comes with us, and grabs a memento. You probably saw the swords and guns on his wall, right?” Shinji laughed. “I saw his quarters.” Sasuke leaned in and whispered, “That’s not even half. The man could open a museum after all this blows over”, with the two of them sharing a lighthearted chuckle. ===================================== Jun loaded up his gear, consisting of an army jacket covered over with a vest, his revolver, an AR-15, an army knife and a radio. Four other men along with two women saluted him. He saluted briefly and looked at each member. “I suppose you are my supply run crew?” he asked. One of the men, a guy in his 20s with sharp features responded with, “Yes sir! We are Privates Hogu, Yoshitsu, Naga, Baruka, Imakane & Jorune” Jun nodded. “I’ll try to remember all those names…somehow” he jokingly replied. Ronin walked up to him, decked out in similar clothing. “Mind an extra guy?” he asked, smiling. Jun grinned. “Not at all”, and with that, they climbed aboard the Osprey. ================================ On the main flight deck, Haruna asked one of the airmen “Where are they heading off to?” The airmen looked at the schedule, and remarked with horror “The city of Onagawa!” Haruna frowned. “What is so scary about that?” The airmen handed her a map. On the map in giant kanji it read: “DEAD CONTAINMENT FACILITY” The Airman explained horrified, “It was used to hold the majority of the dead from the major cities, including Tokyo, Okinawa & Hiroshima. It’s a deathtrap filled with hundreds of thousands of the dead! They could be walking into a trap!” Haruna looked up at the now distant Osprey, and whispered “God I hope you’re wrong” ======================================================================== On the extended season finale of The Walking Dead Japan: As Jun and Ronin attempt to survive against the odds, a realization will be made, and former enemies become stronger.

NEW CAST: Pilot Doramu – Daisuke Kuroda Captain Norunaga- Kengo Kora Summary: As Jun and Ronin attempt to survive against the odds, a realization will be made, and former enemies become stronger. Episode 212 – Traitors The city lay abandoned, with only a few walkers shambling the streets around as Jun and his group landed on the roof of the local hospital and began to search for meds and food. Oddly, the medicine was still untouched and ripe of the picking. After having been searching for around an hour, Jun ordered his 3 men to load their bags with whatever they could carry, while Ronin’s men were searching the commissary for any leftover food. They came across a room filled with canned goods and bagged dry grains and the like. “Jackpot” Ronin breathed in relief. One of the run members, Naga, picked up a can of dried fish and grinned. “I claim this beauty as mine!” he jokingly proclaimed. Ronin playfully snatched the can from his hand and looked at the expiration date. “Gonna have to go back in time a day, it expired yesterday!” he said with laugh. Suddenly in the other area where the second team was searching, a door next to them shook violently. Jun noticed a board had been used to keep the door shut, which was beginning to crack and splinter. Jun saw through the crack to see the floor which was covered with walkers begin to sag. He then realized that Ronin and his group were below the room filled with walkers. “RONIN YOU NEED TO LEAVE THAT ROOM NOW!” Jun screamed through the radio. He dialed in the Osprey pilot hurriedly. “WARM UP THE BLADES! WE’RE LEAVING!!” Private Jorune was in a patient room down the hall and shouted “PILOT DORAMU, WE NEED TO GO NOW!” through her radio also. ========================================== Ronin noticed the dust falling from the ceiling, and looked up. The ceiling was bulging and sagging, with splinters and plaster popping off in large chunks. He then heard Jun bark his order through the radio. “We are leaving people! Come on before-” the ceiling then collapsed, with over a hundred walkers pouring through. One walker stood, a man with his neck covered in bloody vomit, and lunged towards Ronin, but a quick sidestep and a suppressed pistol shot made quick work of it. He then heard a scream, and saw that Private Imakane had been bitten in the neck by a hidden walker, and was having her face ripped off, blood pouring down her neck. Ronin raised his rifle and blew the walker’s brains out. He then looked down at the dying Private and raised his rifle. “Sorry doll” he said softly, pulling the trigger. The other 2 privates were horrified, but still made their way to the Osprey. They arrived, with Ronin behind them. “We need to go!” the pilot yelled. “WE ARE NOT LEAVING WITHOUT JUN YOU BASTARD!” screamed Ronin, standing guard by the roof access door. The Pilot began to take off, shouting, “I am not going to die here!” Ronin climbed aboard and pulled out his gun. “You take this thing off the landing pad, and you’re a dead man. WE STAY PUT.” He growled. Come on Jun, he thought to himself. ==================================== Jun and his group hacked and slashed their way through dozens of the dead, and eventually reached the roof access door. Behind them trailed dozens upon dozens of infected who shambled across the now bloody hospital floor. Jun saw the dead body of the Private and still ran towards the exit. He flung open the door, and pulled out his handgun. “GO! I’ll cover you!” he shouted. As walkers approached, his pistol spewed lead, dropping walker after walker. The last Private made her way through the door, and Jun followed, running up to the Osprey. Ronin grabbed his hand and flung him on the cargo deck, shooting a walker that followed them onto the roof. “NOW DORAMU!” screamed Ronin, prompting the scared pilot to fire up the blades, and then sent the aircraft soaring away from the now walker infested Hospital. Jun smiled and grabbed Ronin’s shoulder. “We at least have the meds and food!” he said in-between gasps of air. Ronin shot an angry look to the pilot, and whispered into Jun’s ear. Jun’s face became stern, and he said audibly enough for the pilot to hear, “We will deal with this when we get back to the ship. But for now, we have the supplies Yamamoto ordered” =================================== From a distance Hogun saw the Osprey and approached Mesuji. “Ma’am, the Shinda’s Osprey was spotted” he reported. Mesuji saw the Osprey in the distance. “That copter is one that your group encountered, correct?” she asked Hogun, who nodded. “That is one of the Ospreys that killed two of our disciples. If we are to take the Shinda as our own, how would we even board it with it being on the ocean?” he asked. Mesuji smiled and brushed Hogun’s cheek. “I’ll take care of that my love” she answered, winking at him. She held a single vial of the Antigen in her hand, and watched it glisten in the sun. “Soon, we can make Japan ours” she said softly. ======================================== The Osprey landed and both Jun and Ronin tumbled out, with the rest of the soldiers climbing out. The pilot threw his helmet on the flight deck and shouted, “YOU CRAZY ASSHOLE! YOU POINTED YOUR GUN AT ME!” Ronin sneered, “Yeah, and Jun and his group made it back. Your dumbass was going to leave them behind!!” The pilot pulled out a wrench from the Osprey and swung it at Ronin, who dodged the swing and threw a hard punch into the pilot’s gut. The pilot dropped the wrench and doubled over, his abdomen shooting with pain. Yamamoto and Haruna approached the fight, with several soldiers raising their rifles on Ronin. “FREEZE!” one shouted, prompting Ronin to hold his hands up. The pilot stood up and punched Ronin hard in the face, sending him flying onto the flight deck. The pilot then hurled another punch onto Ronin’s face, and then picked the wrench up, raising it in a murderous manner. “Think you can point a gun in my face and get away with it, Yakuza trash!” he roared. Suddenly, a gun’s hammer clinking back made him stop his tirade. Sung-min approached the pilot, a Beretta in his hands at the ready. “Drop the wrench, dumbass” he ordered. Yamamoto shouted, “Holster your firearm!” at the Korean, who ignored him. Yamamoto went to reach for his handgun, only to find it in Haruna’s hands instead, planted against his head. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” she cooed. Jun stepped forward, his rifle aimed at the guard and his run crew. “No one moves or they get shot” he warned. Ronin stood up. “The hospital was crawling with the dead, and were escaping, and this cowardly BITCH wanted to leave Jun and his group behind. He wanted to save his own ass so badly he was willing to leave 4 others to their deaths. He is a filthy coward!” he shouted, a trickle of blood dripping from his mouth. The pilot looked horrified. “Pilot, is what he said true?” Yamamoto asked. Private Naga spoke up instead. “I was on Ronin’s team. Pilot Doramu did indeed try to leave the other group behind” Private Baruka also piped up, “I was there too. This sniveling weasel tried to leave the others behind!” Jun smiled slightly. “You try to screw us over, and think you can just leave?!” he shouted. The guards, much to Yamamoto’s shock, turned their rifles from Jun’s group, to the pilot. One guard shouted, “We should kill this son of a bitch!” another yelled, “Screw it, let us dump this piece of trash overboard!” Pilot Doramu backed away, and stammered, “I am one of the few pilots on board! You can’t throw me overboard!” Yamamoto approached him, making the pilot back up against the edge of the flight deck. “No you aren’t. There are 7 other pilots here. And we can always train more. But you…you are not allowed to stay on my ship. My ship only has room for worthy people” he then shoved the pilot off the ship, sending the man tumbling into the torrid ocean below. Yamamoto straightened his collar, and turned to the crew. “Back to work!” he ordered as he walked back to his quarters. =================================== Yamamoto closed the door, sitting at his desk and pouring himself a glass of brandy. Jun and Ronin entered the room and sat down. Yamamoto took a swig of brandy and slammed the glass onto the table. “I thought I knew that bastard Doramu. I thought I knew everyone on the floating city, but I was wrong. I still don’t trust you Masumoto, but I knew when to trust your story as soon as the other members of your team vouched for you. They trust you, and in such a short time period too. That’s a good sign for me” Jun leaned forward. “I won’t harm your crew. I want to protect them. It’s just the fact that if I had to choose between a random person onboard or one of my group, I would choose the latter. It’s selfish, but honestly, I don’t give a shit”, with the final words making Ronin shoot a shocked look at Jun. Jun relaxed in his chair. “Sorry to be blunt, but that’s life. We didn’t choose this, but we have to live it in anyways” Yamamoto nodded slowly. He had to agree. “Life is about working together now. I think, maybe we can work together better now that we understand each other, don’t you think?” he asked, garnering a nod from the other two men. ================================ Hogun and another Reborn drug the captive to Mesuji’s tent, throwing the man to her feet. “I apologize for in intrusion priestess, but this unclean heathen was found by our scouts” The man was panting and covered in small cuts and bruises. Mesuji raised an eyebrow. “Why is he even here?” she asked. “Ma’am, he is from the Shinda. His name is Doramu” Mesuji leaned in, facing the terrified pilot. “What can you offer us?” she asked “Why should I keep you alive and not have you skinned alive?” Doramu covered his face “I CAN GET YOU ABOARD THE SISTER SHIP SERIZAWA!!” he screamed in fear. Hogun clamped a strong hand on the pilot’s shoulder. “How can we board the ship, pilot?” he asked. Mesuji stood. “You see, Doramu, I and my friend here are firm believers in a more loyal Japan, one free from this plague that has swept over all of us. Genetics and stellar examples do more to enforce a new life, rather than simple kindness. In short, I want to rebuild the Showa era of Japan, one not afraid of others showing off and capable of crushing anything standing on our way. What do you think of that, Doramu?” Doramu slowly nodded. “Admiral Yamamoto is weak and soft. He allowed the new people on board, and-” Mesuji raised a hand. “You and I have the same thoughts. Good. Now, since you can get us aboard the Serizawa, since it is the sister ship of the Shinda, how about you do that for us?” she asked, smiling flirtatiously. Doramu pulled out a waterproof radio and dialed into a frequency that was still operational, and spoke into it in a calm manner. “This is Private Doramu, hailing the Serizawa. Please respond” There was silence. “…Doramu? What is your purpose for hailing us on this frequency?” a voice on the other end demanded Dorum swallowed. “I have someone who wishes to speak with you about dealing with the traitor Yamamoto” He handed the radio over to Mesuji. “This is Dr. Keiko Mesuji, authentication code E3TBF001. I think you might remember me, no?” The radio was silent. “…you’re alive?!” a stunned voice on the other end gasped. The receiver clicked off and muffled noises were heard coming from the other radio. It was picked up and a familiar voice floated through the speaker. “Dr. Mesuji…I hope you aren’t trying to pull the wool over our eyes” Mesuji smiled. “Mr. Fujiwara, how are you doing nowadays?” she asked with mild menace. Fujiwara responded, “I am considering having you killed via Osprey. If you think for one minute you will board our vessel…” Mesuji laughed. “Come on now! Do you want to languish under the command of Yamamoto, the soft coward unable to progress Japan into the future? Do you really want to be under that thick of a thumb?” she asked, using a seductive tone. Fujiwara loudly swallowed and replied, “We are not pleased with his progress nor his decisions, no, but a takeover is out of the question, especially one with you involved!” Hogun balled his fists in rage, only calming down with a wave from Mesuji. “I know you are an untrusting man, but if you had any trust left, now would be the time. Please, allow me and my group aboard your vessel. We will only benefit you in the long run I assure you” she requested, using the sensual tone to its fullest extent. There was a pause. “How many of you will there be?” Fujiwara asked. “6, including myself and my group. We will not be a problem, I promise” Fujiwara sighed. “We have traced your radio signal. We will send an Osprey there within 30 minutes. Don’t screw with the Captain, Mesuji” he warned “He will, unlike Yamamoto, kill you and anyone he dislikes” Mesuji smiled, turning off the radio. “Pack up the camp, and clean yourselves up. We are boarding the Serizawa” she walked past Doramu, who grabbed her dress. “What about me? I need to go with you as a token of good faith!” he pleaded. Mesuji nodded. “Indeed. Take him with us” she ordered. “I don’t trust Fujiwara” Hogun grunted, throwing his woman mask onto the wet ground. “I know him very well. He is a coward, and his liking of the female animal is his greatest weakness. He is not the one we should be comfortable with. The Captain is a friend, and sees our way more clearly. But…perhaps keeping the fat little pilot will make things go smoother, no?” she laid out to Hogun, who washed his face. “Very smoothly” he replied, his face dripping bloody water. He looked at the woman with a slight frown. “What about the others? We won’t need them, since they are too fanatical to use for our purposes” Mesuji looked towards the sky, and replied, “They won’t be a problem” =============================== Sung-min and Akiko were on the flight deck of the Shinda, when a ship appeared on the horizon. It was blackened from a fire and was incredibly tall even for the aircraft carrier. Akiko pointed to the hull, which was riddled with holes. “That looks like cannon fire damage” she pointed out. Sung-min squinted and replied “it does! But…only the Military has the firepower to destroy something that large” Akiko shrugged. “Might have been the Chinese or Koreans who shot it…wait…it’s an oil tanker!!” she exclaimed. The tanker soon approached the Shinda, casting a large shadow over the flight deck. Ronin and Shinji came onto the deck, with Takeshi in tow. “Jesus Christ” commented one sailor, and they then saw why he said that. The entire upper deck of the tanker was covered in walkers, all screeching and snarling at the sight of the living people below them. “Hope none of them get any bright ideas like jumping onto the flight deck” Ronin grunted. The name of the vessel soon appeared: the Jibang So or 지방 소 in Hangul. “It’s Korean!” gasped Sung-min. “What does the name mean?” a confused Akiko asked him. Sung-min smirked. “Fat Cow. Koreans have a sense of humor when it comes to things like this” he replied with a faint chuckle. He smiled and winked at Akiko. The tanker groaned past the carrier, until the stern of the larger ship swayed, causing it to collide with the carrier. The damage was minor, but what was more worrying was the tanker now raining walkers onto the carrier. At least half a dozen landed with a sickening splat on the flight deck, with another half dozen landing mostly unharmed. One walker landed face first, his nose and jaw crushed from the impact, but the brain still unharmed. A gunshot from Akiko soon ended that threat. The other remnants of the walkers were quickly taken care of by Akiko and Sung-min. An airman rushed up the gore covered deck and grimaced. “Shit! Now I have to clean this up!” he said in an annoyed tone, causing Akiko to chuckle softly to herself. The tanker eventually capsized after passing the aircraft carrier, pouring hundreds of walkers into the ocean. Sung-min frowned. “Guess the water filtration systems will be working overtime now. Filthy bastards” he grunted irritably. ============================== The Serizawa’s Osprey landed, and out poured several soldiers covered from head to toe in black riot armor, armed with rifles and shields. A red circle was painted on the arm of each soldier, and each had their face covered with a visor. The Reborn were surrounded, and a single man stepped out, dressed in a simple grey suit. “Dr. Mesuji? We are here to pick you and 6 of your other members up. Shall we proceed?” Hogun stepped forward and shouted, “Come brothers! We leave the will of Izanami behind!” 4 other cultists stepped forward to join him and Mesuji, while the other 9 or so remaining Reborn stood in shock. “We are not leaving the service of our priestess!” one woman shouted. The soldiers raised their rifles, making the Reborn hold their hands up hurriedly. Hogun and Mesuji stepped into the Osprey along with the 4 other followers. One soldier asked Mesuji, “what about the rest of your group? We have no need for fanatical cultists” Mesuji shrugged. “They are no use to me. Be a dear and remove them” the soldiers then opened fire, gunning down every remaining member of the Reborn. Doramu ran up to them from the tent, panting, “What about me?!” Mesuji smiled sweetly. “Bring him too. We would not be here without him, no would we?” she asked. The soldiers followed Mesuji and Doramu into the Osprey, as walkers who had heard the noise soon began to feast on the now dead or dying Reborn. ===================================== Yamamoto waved Jun and Takeshi into the control room, which was filled with equipment including sonar, radar, communication arrays and system analysis controls. An airman pointed to an object coming towards the Shinda at a rapid pace. “Sir, we have an unknown copter approaching the ship! We have hailed them, they have not responded. Requesting permission to shoot down the copter” Yamamoto looked towards the two other men. “Well…it’s your call, Murano and Masuomoto. What should I do?” Takeshi commented, “It could have survivors who need help. Maybe we should allow them onboard, Admiral” with Jun nodding in agreement. Yamamoto nodded also. “Fine” he muttered. “Allow them on board, but have a guard detail check them” he ordered one soldier. The copter soon landed, with a large bloody smear across the front of the nose, and out tumbled a soldier in black clothing covered in blood. “YAMAMOTO!” he shouted, stumbling out of the copter, with the pilot exiting the cockpit after him. Yamamoto grasped the soldier and demanded, “What is wrong? What happened on board the Serizawa?!” The soldier gasped for air, and blurted out, “The Captain is planning a coup against you! We only just escaped! Sir, you have to leave the area before-” He was cut short when the pilot shot the soldier in the head, spraying blood on Yamamoto’s face. The pilot aimed his gun at the Admiral and said, “Your altruistic ways have angered the Board and the JUC. Traitor scum!” he then shot the Admiral in the arm, but was tackled to the flight deck by Takeshi, who landed blow after savage blow onto the pilot, eventually cracking the pilot’s jaw in two, and cutting up his hands in the process. He stood up shaking, and murmured, “Oh god…oh god what have I done?” Jun approached the pilot and clamped the pistol to his head. “Who are the JUC and the Board?” he demanded. Yamamoto stood with his hand over his gunshot wound. “The Board is the remnants of the Japanese government who think that using elitist tactics will…regain the former glory it used to have. The JUC is the Japanese Unified Coalition, the sword arm of the Board. Truth is…my orders were not to help anyone in need, but to keep the Board safe. Using resources like I am is against their rules, and now they want to pay for my insubordination” he explained. “I lied to you about my intentions. I was not here to help; I am here to protect the delegates. But I chose to take the higher path. I should have told you” Jun looked at Yamamoto, and saw behind him his group, with Jae Eun approaching him. “Jun…they will hunt us down” she said in a frightened tone. Ronin and Sung-min looked at each other, and nodded. Jun looked down at the pilot who grinned through his broken jaw. He stood, and then blew his brains out in front of the crew and his group. He holstered his gun and stood in front of Yamamoto and simply replied: “Then we will let them know they fucked with us for the last time” ================================================ The Osprey landed and out stepped Mesuji and Hogun. A younger man dressed in a near perfect designer suit met them, with a company of armed soldiers to behind him. “Doctor Mesuji?” he asked. The doctor nodded and pointed to the men behind her. “These are my group members. They share the same sentiment as the JUC & the Board has” The man nodded with a smile. “That’s excellent news! I am Captain Norunaga. Welcome aboard the Serizawa, Miss” he greeted her. Mesuji bowed and said politely, “Thank you Captain. I believe we both have work to attend to?” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
